President Michael & Agnes are overseas for another 2 weeks.

The latest update is that they have tackled the Royal Mile in Edinburgh and were then headed to Dublin with a tour of the Guiness Brewery high on the agenda.

Happenings at last week’s Meeting

Vice President Rob presided over this week’s meeting. After proposing the Toast and calling for the Invocation, VP Rob called on Murray as the Chair. (Murray had already been busy helping with the meeting setup by flogging/selling raffle tokens. Ed)

Murray now obtained an update on President Micks travels from Secretary Mark.

Next it was the Secretary’s report from Mark:
  • Our visit to Rosebud/Rye Rotary is scheduled for the 6th December;
  • The Sea Scouts and Lions visits are still being arranged;
  • The District AGM will be attended by Rod via Zoom; and
  • At our AGTM, on 22nd November, nominations will be canvassed for the roles of President, Treasurer and Secretary for the 25/26 year.

Director Charles announced that the Polio Plus Cinema night is on the 17th November at 7:00 p.m. at the Rosebud Cinema. Tickets are $20 per head and profits go to the Rotary Polio Plus Project.

Greg informed the meeting that another person from the Shire has contacted him regarding the details of the placement of our “donated” picnic table.

Joseph began a discussion on the future management of the rides provided at our Halloween celebrations. Currently the Club loses around $1500 on the hiring. Options are available and will be discussed at the next Board meeting before being presented to the Club. Joseph did point out that we are taking learnings from each year and these will be fed in to each future planning. (Learnings will also feed in to the development of comprehensive/helpful processes and procedures. Ed)

Chris now spoke on the plans being put in place for the development of our Friends Of Rotary (F.O.R) group. He is working with Marion to develop two types of letters. One for Organisations (Business) and one for Individuals (F.O.R) which will give an explanation of what Rotary Dromana is all about and what the aim of F.O.R is all about. Once these has been proofed they will be distributed in the Dromana/Safety Beach area and a follow-up meeting will be arranged. Distribution is aimed for the end of the Month. In addition, a F.O.R committee is to be established and the whole project will be underway in 2024.

A discussion ensued on Club Membership and how to increase it. It was suggested that other Clubs who have been successful in raising Membership should be canvassed for ideas.

Joseph suggested that our Sponsors don’t get much for their support of the Club and maybe a dinner could be arranged. Such a dinner could also be used for future recruitments of Members.

Murray now called for Fines and Merv jumped into the fray. (Although pinging the Ed for not attending Halloween was a bit rich. Ed)

Murray called for the Lotto to be drawn and promptly won it himself.

Treasurer Bernard announced that, sadly, he will be leaving the Club and is moving from Safety Beach on 19th December. As well as the Clubs loss of a fine Member this means that a new Treasurer is required for the rest of this year. Bernard will document the Role and will mentor his replacement in the weeks leading up to his departure.

Mark reinforced Bernards request that the Club needs a Treasurer and someone needs to “step up.

(Not an intentionally sexist picture. Ed)

After doing a fine job with a chaotic bunch Murray closed the Meeting at 7:55.

You will receive an email each week requesting that you confirm your attendance at the next meeting by return email of by phone call or text.
