THE GUEST SPEAKER
Tonight’s Guest speaker was Paul Saunders from the Greens.
Paul said he came out to Australia from England in 2003 with his family after his wife said she wanted to come over were some of her family had come to, they decided to move to Balnarring.
Paul was educated in Plymouth U.K, he also said there were 200,000 people coming to Australia each year, there are also over 5 million people living in Melbourne. He has concerns about population growth for not only this country but the world. He said we are living longer and this will contribute to the over population problem. He said the Mornington Peninsula is know an out suburb of Melbourne and there was a need for more growth and housing in this area.
Paul joined the Greens because he had a lot in common with them and is standing in the November elections for the state.
Questions- Pres Peter said to Paul, If there is need for housing on the Peninsula, then why has the Shire reduced the size of sub division to nothing less than 450 sq. mtrs per site , this is opposite to what is needed as most of the blocks in Dromana beachside of Boundary rd. are only between 650 and 800 sq. mtrs, not 900 sq. meters as they say you need, Paul said you could build up to 11 meters high, Peter said, l don’t know about you but if my neighbour was going to build 11 meters up or do a front and back proposal ,l know which one l would prefer, Peter also said why does the shire knock back development and then it goes to Vecat and gets passed, when it has not been made law by the shire as yet and has no reason to knock it back in the first place, just slowing down the process.
It was a very interesting talk that could of gone on for more time, but unfortunately ran out of time.
