Happenings at the last meeting
This week we had a well attended Zoom meeting except for our President Harry who was unable to attend.
As this was a club night the subjects were wide-ranging. We started off with a discussion on the options that are available for future meeting venues. The Golf Club doesn’t seems to be as secure a venue in the new year as it has been in the past.
The following options were brought up:
- The Elderly Citizens Club in Dromana was seen as dated and “old”, which may not fit with our desire for a more modern, youthful image. We would all be required to join as members of the Club with the Peninsular Club providing the catering. This would make to cost comparable to the Life Saving Club.
- The Safety Beach Yacht Club is costly and may not be able to accommodate Thursday nights.
- The Dromana Fire Brigade have a building. Needs to be investigated.
- The Uniting Church may have an option. Needs to be investigated.
The BBQ at the Hillview Reserve next Thursday and the AGM the following week were mentioned and have been spelt out in an e-mail from Chris on Friday 12th.
Our participation at the Two Bays Fun Run was agreed to and Tony will respond with our acceptance.
Bunnings Rosebud are having a Family Day on 9th December and we have been offered the BBQ spot from 4 – 8 pm. Further details are to follow.
Our Xmas party is to be held at the Main Ridge Petanque Club on 16th December. The Club are to provide us with a quote.
The latest Rotary Governance Zoom Meeting provided no practical guidelines for use at our Markets but further meetings may provide more information.
The food packages for Sri Lanka have been purchased and distributed. This means that we have been able to help 150 families so far, which is a marvellous effort. Our project is finished for this year and we look forward to starting up again in the New Year.
During the progress of the Stove Tops Project it has been uncovered that Disaster Aid have a plan in place which seems to target the same problem but is a lot simpler and doesn’t seem to provide as much environmental benefits as our stoves. We are going to check on the status of the Disaster Aid solution and check whether it meets the cooking needs of the people of Timor Leste and Papua New Guinea.
The Eltham Online Art Show was mentioned as being well worth a viewing.
The amount of interest in the Polio Movie Night still has to be ascertained.
An option for the Club to promote ourselves was raised. Given the number of vacant shop fronts on Point Nepean Road it was suggested that we contact the relevant Real Estate Agent/s and offer to brighten up the plain shop fronts with Club Promotional material. The meeting felt this was worth investigating.
Bob would like a description to be forwarded to him of any, and all, Club Rotary Marketing and Promotional materials.
Chris thanked all those who attended and contributed and the meeting finished at 8:00 pm.
