President's Message
member photo
Hello to All Members,

Last meeting was a meeting of committees, held at the J R Brewery. JRB turned off the music in our meeting room as promised.

It was the new format of 3 committees although Harry and Mark were absent. All were in favour of the new setup. We will trial it again with a little improvement. The discussions amongst the members were fervent, meaningful and positive. So I can expect more improvement for our club in the future.

Next Wed. will be a Club Meeting held at Snooks Sailing Club.

I managed to engage a speaker for our club. His topic title is VETERAN LIAISON and it will be on working with Veterans at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.

Happenings at last week’s Meeting

This week we were back at the Jetty Rd Brewery for our Committees Meeting. After congregating in the meeting room and having a chat,

President Charles called the Meeting to order and directed Members to their Committees.

After the discussions and volume died down, President Charles then called for a report on progress from each Committee.

Chris (PR, Media, Sponsorship & Fundraising) reported:
  • Major Projects were discussed, also from the point of view of attracting new Members and Friends of Rotary. Suggestions varied and included – Mental Health Forum, partnering with the Foster Care Foundation and raising money with a Frog Race;
  • Researching what organisations could be approached for donations;
  • Projects would be long term and/or perpetual;
  • The process for gaining, and administering, Friends of Rotary need to be developed;
  • Membership signage needs to be displayed at all sites;
  • There is a possibility of administering the Industrial Estate signage and charging fees;
  • Future IT was discussed – Web site, Facebook, Instagram, Utube and WhatsApp. Also, future Zoom usage, particularly for Guest Speakers.
Merv (Community Service) then summarised their discussions about applying for Grants from the Shire for Halloween and Xmas Carols. They also touched on the possibility of approaching the CFA for their involvement in Halloween.

Geoff (Youth Services) spoke on:
  • The Mock Interviews are being held on 8th August;
  • Rotary Youth programs are being reviewed for the next calendar year;
  • There was talk of a Rotary version of the Duke of Edinburgh Award;
  • The District require that we re-do the Rotary Form-3, presumably because of the creation of the new District.
On behalf of Harry (International), who is on holiday, it was reported that the Disaster Aid Australia visit has been set down for the 6th September.

Mike announced that he wants to get business cards printed for all Members and wanted to know if anyone objected to having their phone number printed on them. There were no objections.

The consensus was that this week's Meeting began to show how our Club Committees can work successfully.

The Meeting closed at 8:00.

Spare Council Waste Vouchers

Once again Pete Anderson is placing a call-out to anyone who has council waste vouchers that they will not be using before expiry. If you have any, just pass them over to Pete and he will make very good use of them.

You will receive an email each week requesting that you confirm your attendance at the next meeting by return email of by phone call or text.
