President's Message

Halloween is rapidly approaching, let's hope it works out on the night.

We need to have a push to raise money for the Flood victims in Victoria.

Can we try to put together a table at the Interplast dinner 8th of Nov at 6pm
73-93 Old Mornington Rd Mt Eliza at $70 per head? We can have 8 attendees. Wanda and I can go along.

Happenings at last weeks’ meeting

Following on from the pomp and ceremony of the 50th Anniversary Dinner this weeks meeting was a more modest affair owing to the unavailability of various members for varying reasons. The expected reporting on the progress of club committees was also curtailed.

Due to the expected topics Greg had been nominated as Chair for the meeting. After the usual Toasts and Invocation, Greg made the following announcements:
  • 9820 has donated $10,000 to the flood relief efforts;
  • The Club has also donated $900 to flood relief;
  • The Shire has donated $4,000 towards the Halloween celebrations;
  • The securing of prizes for the best Halloween dress-ups was discussed by the members;
  • The collection of the woodchips and fireboxes for the celebration was organised; and
  • Greg had attended a meeting at the Southern Peninsular Community Support Centre.
Greg now called on Secretary Mark for his report:
  • We have received an e-mail invitation to attend the Gippsland Rotary Centenary House AGM;
  • A reminder that the Club Calendar is now accessible from the Bulletin (see below);
  • November 13th is the date for the District 9820 AGM;
  • Board meeting minutes are available on our web site;
  • Wednesday November 30th is the Club AGM; and
  • Tonight we will be discussing the draft changes to the Club By-laws.
Greg now called for Directors reports from those who were in attendance.

Director Geoff was the first to his feet with exciting news about Xmas Carols at the Twilight Market on Wednesday 21st December between 7:00 and 8:00pm. It will be necessary for the Club to publicise the move of the Carols to this date and venue. All our social media will be brought into action on this. The Mornington Youth and Citizens Brass Band will provide the music and Cindy Pritchard will lead the singing. The public will be expected to bring either a chair or a rug. Geoff now rattled off a list of things that will still have to be sorted out, including: Santa; Lollies; The Stage; and the Sound System.

At this point Director Chris announced that the Shire has queried the date of the Twilight Market. It seems that they regard last year’s Market as a one-off event so he will have to send them a new application.

Next, Director Lyn spoke about the success of the Powerful Owl talk given to the Dromana Primary School. (My granddaughter loved it. Ed) Lyn also informed the meeting that the mural at the school was an engaging mix of History and the Environment. This led on to her suggesting that the Club look into inviting someone from the Historical Society to come to one of our meetings and give a talk, which the meeting fully endorsed.

It was announced that Jan Spears was arranging support for the flood relief.

Greg now called for Lotto (Ailsa won, again?) and Fines. Sergeant Pete attacked the issuing of fines with gusto. He spread them through the members, sparing few. (he did try and get your Ed with a second fine but I pleaded ignorance and he accepted that.)

It was now Secretary Mark’s time to discuss the draft By-Laws changes. Due to the paucity of attendees this week the expected wide-ranging discussion really didn’t eventuate. The main topic which did raise some questions was the clarification of the Classes of Membership and it was decided to invite and seek “illumination” from Tim Moore. The 2nd November is the next, and last, chance to discuss and agree on these by-law changes. Mark would welcome any correspondence which can further the success of the vote.

The meeting now dissolved into a discussion on the Halloween celebration. An upcoming meeting of the committee will, no doubt, answer any outstanding questions.

Greg thanked everyone for attending and contributing and the meeting closed at 8:05.

Our AGM

Peninsular Cluster – Interplast Celebration Dinner

Interplast dinner, meet the surgical crew.

We can have a table of 8 people. $70 per head Nov 8th 6pm at Toorak coledge 73-93 Old Mornington rd Mt Eliza

Attached is a link to the Humanitex website and invitation to The Peninsula Cluster -Interplast Celebration Dinner.  Just to confirm that each Club is entitled to a table of eight.  The tickets can be booked in individual names or the Club could make a bulk booking.   The key question is attendees.

Whilst we are of course very well advanced with the funding target itself the dinner will give us an opportunity to gain valuable PR that we can all use.  Meeting some of the people who do this valuable work is inspiring.

See as many as possible on November 8th.
