President Mike opened the meeting and advised of the format for the evening.
Extraordinary General Meeting declared open, President Mike as the Chair. Only item for discussion and approval the recommendations from the legal regarding three clauses in the By Laws.
Following considerable debate, the following motion was put to the members, “that further clarification is required as to the relevance of the amendments as they relate to Club and that on receipt of such clarification the members shall be advised and action taken accordingly’. Proposed Wayne Higgs, seconded Charles Ross, motion carried.
As there were no further items the EGM was closed.
Our newest member, Wayne Higgs then gave a “Behind the Badge’ presentation:
Born in Devonport – Tasmania, the great, great grandson of free settlers from England the father of which was an artist, architect and surveyor.
As a result, the Higgs name is spread across Northern Tasmania (Ed, unsure of the relationship between the two statements other than surveying has more than one meaning)
Grandfather had a shipbuilding business in Devonport plus orchards (think that’s right – writing a bit of a scrawl)
Moved to Wynard, TAFE in Launceston – married to wife No 1.
Set up a joinery and building business specialising in restoration work with their major client being the National Trust.
In addition to the business attended University and obtained a teaching degree. Taught at TAFE.
Following discussions with partner parted ways and subsequently married wife No 2.
Was approached to manage the Tasmanian Master Builders Association, which he did for 12 years – an extremely interesting and rewarding time.
Following discussions with partner, parted ways.
Thankfully, his secretary at the TMBA was looking after his future interests and enrolled him in an on-line dating programme. While he was reluctant to use it he did receive numerous contacts from interested parties, one of which pursued him relentlessly. They finally met, turned out to be his soul mate who became partner No 3.
Finished his term with the TMBA and moved to Safety Beach where they already had a house.
Meeting then passed to PE Charles who distributed the upcoming committee list for 2024-25. Much discussion took place on member development social media, PR etc.
Meeting closed at 7-50pm
