Hi All

Bunnings BBQ Easter Monday

By the time you read this the event will be over. Treasurer mark will report on the outcomes on Thursday evening

Meeting

We still had a couple of technical problems with the Zoom meeting last week. Hopefully Secretary Bob was able to see most of it. And thanks again to Rod Troutbeck for his presentations it is a shame that he comes form the “dark side” of the IT world IE Apple Mac; is presented a few minor issues

Mini District Conference.

One again it would be great if more of you were to attend the Mini District Conference. I have booked So Carol and I will be there. We would love some company. If you have never been before you don’t know what you are missing. Directors in particular should attend.

See details below

Our On to Conference Chairman, Chris Booth will probably have more to say on this.

"District Governor Mark and Linda are excited to invite you to our District 9820 Mini Conference as we gather in person for the first time in 12 months to celebrate our District.

Our mini conference will be held face to face on the 1st May following the online virtual 2021 Multi District Conference, information following. Jump in your car, drive down the highway and meet us all at Nossal High School for an afternoon and evening of fun and entertainment.

This will be our first conference in two years. We have quite a lot to catch up, so we are breaking the conference into three components.

The Conference component will bring us together to pay our respect to those called to higher service, to celebrate and acknowledge award recipients, to hear presentations and to ratify some short mandatory business resolutions.

A friendship break in the foyer where we can socialise over finger food.

Conference Dinner and entertainment in the main Hall where you will enjoy time together over a two-course meal, beverages included, while being entertained by our Nossal High School students as they showcase their amazing musical and dance talents.

Happenings at the last meeting.

President Rick, indicated that we have been invited to an annual district conference on the 1st May 2021 in Berwick. See the recent email from Jane Moore.
We received a letter of appreciation from the Dromana Netball club.
Rotary Operation Cleft are looking for contributions.  This is a good cause that gives a gift of a smile.
The Dromana RSL sent an invitation for the Anzac day dawn service.

The market last week had 35 paid sites giving $1750 profit.  We raised $360 from the BBQ.  Although the profit is weather related, it still is a good fund raiser.

Adrian spoke about an uplifting story about ROMAC - Rotary Overseas Medical Aid for Children
In 2000 Heda Silih a thirteen year old girl and her mother Margaret from a remote village on Manus Island arrived in Melbourne on Christmas Eve, unable to walk and with little eyesight. She was within days of death suffering from an egg sized brain tumour.
In a note from Roger Annear Heda with her mother Margaret spent almost a month recovering at the Royal Children’s Hospital followed by a fortnight in Mount Martha with the Annears and with support from Adrian.  Her illness had caused her early learning difficulties but following the ROMAC operation she has completed her primary and secondary schooling with some distinction.
In 2010 she commenced a Business and Accounting degree at University in Port Moresby with support of Rotary clubs in the cluster as is now the payroll administrator in the near-by Hilton Hotel.  Recent good news is that Heda has married a University friend and is going to have a baby later this year. What a wonderful Rotary and ROMAC successful life story for a deserving young lady who 22 years ago had no future. (Thanks to a note from Roger Annear)

The guest speaker, who shall remain nameless, spoke about whether roadside safety barriers worked.  The answer was that they did!

On the lighter side.

Boy aged 4:  Dad, I’ve decided to get married.

Dad:  Wonderful; do you have a girl in mind?!

Boy:  Yes … grandma! She said she loves me, I love her, too  … and she’s the best cook and story teller in the whole world!!

Dad:  That’s nice, but we have a small problem there!!

Boy:  What problem?!

Dad:  she happens to be my mother. How can you marry my mother!!

Boy:  Why not?! You married mine!!!
