Happenings at last week’s Meeting
This week we started with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and then finished off with the regular Club meeting.
President Mick and Agnes had just returned from their European sojourn so, before the AGM started, Mick gave us a thumbnail sketch of their travels through France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Wales and finally London. A thrilling but exhausting trip which will leave them with a lifetime of memories.
After proposing the Toast and Invocation Mick handed the AGM over to the Chair, Mark, who informed the Meeting that the AGM is a statuary requirement as the Club is an incorporated body.
Mark now read out the apologies and announced that we had a quorum so the AGM was “legal”.
The Agenda proceeded thus:
- The Minutes from the previous AGM were accepted (i.e. proposed and seconded. Ed);
- The Clubs Balance Sheet and P&L Statement were accepted;
- The nomination of Charles Ross as the Club President for 24/25 was confirmed;
- Marion Trevellyan was nominated and accepted as Treasurer for 24/25 and 25/26; and
- Tony Viney was nominated and accepted as Secretary for 24/25 and 25/26.
Next the AGM voted, after discussion and modification, on a number of proposals:
- That the Board be empowered to recommend to Members any change to Meeting Nights (This is the Bulletin interpretation of the proposals, not what will appear in the official AGM Minutes. Ed);
- The Board be empowered to trial Meetings using alternate formats to our standard one (Bulletin interpretation! No discussion. Ed); and
- The Board is empowered to review Meeting venues and meals.
Mark then handed the AGM back to the President. Mick thanked Rob and Ross for standing in while he was away and congratulated Joseph on taking on a successful Halloween function. He then closed the AGM at 7:25.
Before continuing with the regular Meeting, Mick asked that anyone with any issue, or even complaint, about any aspect of the Club to please come and have a chat with him. There is nothing worse that feeling that your opinion is not being canvassed or heard and he wants all Members to know that they have his ear and he is available to talk.
Next, Harry gave the Meeting an update on his attendance at the Australian Disaster Aid Conference. He was very happy to announce that the Club had received a Certificate of Appreciation for the SkyHydrant that was donated by Col and Barb Byatt and delivered to the Philippines. Harry felt that the Club should look at funding another SkyHydrant in the very near future.
Chris now gave an update on the upcoming Market. The weather was questionable but at was hoped that Bernards last Market would be a success. There are 35 stalls and more enquiries coming in each month.
Adrian spoke on the recent issues with Speakers cancelling, usually at the last minute. There is little that can be done about this situation, but he outlined some of the Speakers that are pencilled in for 2024. In addition, he proposed that the Club visit the Tyabb Aircraft Museum in 2024, an idea which was welcomed by the Meeting.
Next, Lyn ran through the money allocations to local schools that had been agreed to by the Board:
- $500 each to the Red Hill Primary, Dromana Primary and Peninsular Special School for end of year awards;
- $2,000 to Dromana Secondary School; and
- $4,500 to the Peninsular Special School to go towards their new Sensory Room (sorry but I forgot it’s real name. Ed).
Chris came back to point out that in January we have the Australia Day Celebration, Market and Two Bays Fun Run all on the same long weekend. (busy time for all. Ed)
Murray now conducted a wide-ranging Fines session, covering such things as a broken trailer (Merv!), ignoring messages (Chris!), Bernard not voting, Pete for being absent for 4 months, Chris (again!) for talking and the old favourite, no name tags.
Then we had the Lotto draw and Murray won again. (just saying, but that’s more times than even the Ed won.)
After thanking all attendees Mick closed the Meeting at 7:55.
More Recycling
As we’ve all seen on the TV and/or in the papers, the new bottle and can recycling depots are a great was of generating another income stream for clubs. Our Club has a great opportunity to add to our income once a Club Account is set up. Start collecting and Watch this Space. (meaning the Bulletin or an e-mail).
