Hi All

Thank you all for helping to make the Celebration of our mate David Buchanan's life a memorable occasion and thanks again to Lyn for helping Ann through the last couple of weeks. Our editor Rod has put together a great summary below.

Adrian Davis has to go to hospital this week hopefully he will be back by Thursday. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Committee Meetings

All committee chairs should be getting their members together with a Zoom meeting, or chatting, to get some ideas and set some goals. The next Club meeting we will try to set that up more successfully than we did last time.

BayTrail Centinary Project

This committee met last week so Greg Fitzgerald can hopefully report on the outcome.

Christmas Party By Zoom??!!

Have a think about it

Rotary District 9820 Showcase

Worth a visit get out of iso for a while.

Hi All

David and Ann have been a big part of our lives for fifty years through Apex and Dromana. Just saying their names always makes us smile. David will live in our hearts each day for ever. Our community will walk with dear Ann on her journey and help make sure it is not too lonely. Vair and Helen's families will want to see more of her and give her comfort and delight.

Zoom is coming to our help in having our daughter Sari speak this week at Rotary. She and her husband leads an amazing life. With a four year old they moved to Buln Buln to farm life and new specialist doctor positions in Warragul. The farm thrives, two more children, nearly grown up and more responsible positions in the Gippsland hospital community. Sari is a paediatrician. What she will speak on will be from the heart.

Ciao
Carol

Tribute to David Buchanan, our friend and fellow Rotarian.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of David Buchanan. We extend our sincere condolences to his wife, Ann, and family.

For many years David has worked tirelessly on behalf of Rotary.  Our club is forever grateful that he organised the trailer raffle.  Selling the tickets was the easy part.

The photographs below remind us of David’s commitment to Rotary.

A big thankyou to Lyn Lewis for her role as go-between for Ann and the club during this stressful time. Naturally we offer Ann every assistance in the future.

The Club President, Rick Hayller, has had a long and cherished friendship with David, starting with mutual memberships of the Apex club in Camberwell.  He was inducted into the club in 2003

There have been a number of emails from members expressing their condolences to Ann and to document his impact on their lives.  A few have been included here; apologies for any not recorded here.

“David was known widely for his thoughtfulness and kindness.  But David had a wry sense of humour, and on the many times we travelled with them David would have us in fits of laughter with his observations of all and sundry.”Rick and Carol Hayller

I am so sad – He was the friendliest & most helpful person, that you would wish to have around you.  Bob and Freda Donaldson

“He was very helpful to me at Rotary and during our period at the market.  He will sadly be missed by all who knew David.”  Harry and Trudy Ziegerink

David was one of nature's gentlemen quick to offer assistance, going about his work/assistance quietly, unassumingly and with his sly smile.”  Maggie and Tyrrell McGeever

David was always the first to put his hand up for any working bees.  We particularly remember, after the 2009 fires, the Rotary Club was quick to help out. David and Ann were always willing workers. John and Julie Barnes

David  who was a fantastic worker and a friend to all of us.  He helped me out when I was putting up my nets and only wanted to be paid in ‘jubes.  Always had all the items in his car to fix up any job that was needed to be doneAilsa Hemphill

To quote an Australianism David was a “good bloke” in the very best sense. David was always ready to help and made me a as new Rotary member feel very welcome at the club.
Mike Anderson

A poem by Peter Anderson is a fitting tribute.

To Our beloved Friend  David Buchanan, my friend, our friend.
The man l met that came into my life
We got up to mischief and a little bit of stife.
We went fishing on the bay
But only for the day.
We would catch little fish, but that was then
We were known as the grumpy old men.
We would go to Bunnings to stay for a while
As David would want to look down every bloody aisle.
Everywhere David and l went, there was always no hurry
Where l had no time, and had to scurry.
His car was his enjoyment and pleasure
And as we all know, it held a treasure.
He and Ann would go away in their van
He had a metal detector, but he had no pan.
They would travel the country for months on end
They would see great sights around every bend.
He was like a father to me in every way
It’s a pity more couldn’t be done to make him stay.
He came with me, for every service of my car
Our trips to Mentone, now meaning more by far.
We went to Maccas to get our order
For What he asked for, l should of ran for the border.
One burger no pickles, no sauce and a chocolate shit cake
This is now one place l would refuse take.
He will be missed by one and all
And in his memory, we will all stand tall.

Happenings at the Last meeting

The Guest speaker was Patrick Kizehe, from Edmonton, Canada
Representing “Giving Refugees Hope in Uganda”

Patrick was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  There were more than 400 tributes in the Congo.  He had a comfortable life for the first 10 years, after which he had to escape the fighting and fled to Uganda where he lived in the camp for 2 years.  Presently, there are 1.5 million refugees in Uganda from neighbouring countries.  He described the developing a medical clinic in a mission in Uganda. In 2018, they were able to buy land.  Patrick represents “Giving Refugees Hope in Uganda” and has raised $3,500 to build the walls and need $4,700 to finish installing the windows and doors. They have and expect the clinic to be operational in 2021.
