Happenings at last week’s Meeting
This week we were invited to join in the regular Rotary Rosebud/Rye meeting at their Club House/Warehouse in Capel Sound.
We started the visit by being given a talk and walkthrough of the Warehouse, which is the Clubs main income generator. It is a well-run facility which seems to have just about everything a household, or even collector, could want. They have 6 men doing pickups and deliveries Monday to Thursday and about 12 regular volunteers, including those from the Club. In addition, they get some appointees from the local Centre Link branch.
It is a very large facility, but they say they are always pressed for space as well as for willing volunteers.
After our tour we adjourned upstairs to the Club house for a generous dinner, and we were able to participate in the induction of a new Member to The Rosebud/Rye Club.
Next, Greg gave the Meeting an introduction to the Catalyst Project which has been launched by the Dromana Association and the Dromana Rotary Club. This Project is aimed at beginning to tackle the chronic shortage of crisis accommodation on the Mornington Peninsular and involves the creation and deployment of tiny houses designed as short-term solutions to this accommodation shortage. Initially, the Project is going to develop a prototype tiny house and use it’s deployment to test and perfect the design before moving on the building of many of these houses so as to bring the individual costs per unit down. The prototype is estimated to cost $75,000 with $30,000+ already pledged.
Greg presentation elicited an enthusiastic Q&A session with a general agreement that the Project was a worthwhile contribution to tackling the homeless crisis on the Peninsular.
At the end of the Meeting President Mick thanked Heather and all of the Rosebud/Rye Club for making us all so welcome and extended an invitation for us to reciprocate sometime in the New Year.
The Meeting was officially closed at 8:20 and coffee was served.

We were treated to an invocation at the meeting which I thought warranted being reproduced here.
I give thanks for the opportunity to be a Rotarian. Rotarians dig wells from which we will never drink. We vaccinate children we will never meet. We restore eyesight for those we will never see. We build housing we will never live in. We educate children we will never know, and We plant trees we will never sit under.
