Happenings at the last meeting
Rick showed us his new address with the aid of computer graphics.  Our guest speaker was Peter Showell (pete@showell.com.au). Peter joined Latitude 38 club about 4 years ago and became involved in activities in Vietnam through SAPP (http://sapp.org.vn/). He enjoyed volunteering at a hospital to give out food to hospitals patients. He was working with SAPP to provide assistance in other ways. Although, Peter’s interest was in raising funds for medical cards to provide medical attention free or at a reduced rate. Those who cannot afford a health card often avoid medical attention. The cost of the health card is about $50 and often the choice is either food or the card. Children are cover by their parent’s card and so providing these cards has a significant impact on the health of the population. With the help of local authorities, the cosy is reduced to about $5,00. He is now looking at purchasing 900 cards, at a cost $4,500. The club thanked Peter for his interesting talk. 
Club business
Secretary Bob has received some literature from the Dolphin Research Institute requesting funding. Similarly, funding request were received from Operation Cleft and Rotary International. The Red Hill Consolidated School sent a thank you for our $250.00 achievement award.
Tony spoke about the Bunnings BBQ. The team positions have been filled and we are ready!
Greg spoke about the work at the Hillview Reserve. Greg spoke about an ongoing working bee at the reserve at the Reserve in the last Saturday of the month. Peninsula Mountain Park Committee Monthly working bee this month was a great success thanks to Bernard Dobson, Geoff Taylor, Siegi Edwards’s Marion and a new helper Paula Polson. We discovered a new structure which will help people assess the western side of the reserve.
 Chris indicated that it is unlikely that we will be able to use the Council club rooms until February. The club is pursuing other options in the meantime.  |
