Happenings at last week’s Meeting
The night started with a bit of confusion because the replacement Guest Speaker had also had to cancel at the last minute. However, eventually it was decided who was not coming and Charles opened the Meeting with the Toast and Invocation. He then handed over to the Chair for the night, Wayne Higgs.
Wayne read out the apologies and then, in a blatant breech of the standard agenda, called on Greg to give an update on the Tiny House Project.
Greg informed the Meeting that:
- The Tiny House is very close to completion, but this is the time of year when all the appropriate trades are very busy;
- It should be ready for deployment early in the new year;
- The Salvo’s are very keen to get hold of it;
- The Salvo’s are the owners of the House, but the paperwork involved is horrendous, and online; and
- The handover of the House will have extensive publicity and should be included in the Clubs media.
The Chair now called for the Presidents Report.
Charles had little to report but said he was looking forward to the Xmas break, as are all Members. He recommended the breakup function on the 17th.
Next was the Secretary’s Report.
Wayne apologised for his late arrival at the Board Meeting, which preceded the Club Meeting, but he felt he needed to shower to “protect” the other attendees.
Next, he spoke on the Breakup night and requested that everyone respond to the invitation so that catering can be finalised. He gave examples of Xmas and Rotary themed limericks to inspire the attendees. (One can only hope that setting the bar this low does inspire the attendees to do better. Ed)
Now the Treasurers Report.
Merv reported:
- The spinners have brought in $600+;
- The November Market was a success, with the BBQ bringing in $800 and the spinner $100;
- Halloween costs were covered;
- Tiny House expenses were ongoing;
- The Club donated $1300+ to Rotary Health and $1500+ Rotary Foundation;
- The Southern Peninsular Community Support received $5000; and
- It was recommended that donations were made to St. Vinnies Kitchen, the Dromana Sea Scouts and the Community House.
Merv gave a potted history of Christies BBQs, started by David (Sandy) Christie OAM in 1972. David was a Rotary Dromana founding member.
The Chair called for Directors Reports.
Peter Collins called for a commitment to another Sky Hydrant in the New Year.
Mark Long ran through the final organising for the Carols by Candlelight with a 2:00 p.m. setup, 5:00 p.m. running and then the pack up. He also pointed out that it will be our Club’s 50th year of organising the Carols. Quite an achievement.
Chris reminded everyone that, although we will be on a Club break, the December Market will still be on, on the 27th, so we still need our usual volunteers. The 2 Bays Run will be on January 11th, and a roster will be sent out.
Harry pointed out that, for the Sky Hydrant to be properly displayed at the Market he needs one of the generators to be available.
Mark Long reported on the Col Byatt memorial, of which he was Chair. Col was well regarded by the wider community and over 250 people attended the memorial. Col had been a champion footballer, gave a start to many young people and had been a great supporter of the Ride to Conference.
Lotto was drawn and won by Tony, then Fines were creatively issued by Greg.
Chris suggested that there be a review/report on each Board Meeting.
Tony commended the Bright Bags initiative, that is current in Queensland, to the Club for next year.
After a very verbose Meeting it was closed, by Charles at 8:00.
