Happenings at last week’s Meeting
Once again it was a Committees Meeting, and we were back at the Jetty Road Brewery. Wayne began the Meeting by explaining why we were back at the Brewery. It is a convenient venue who are happy to receive us in a separate room, in which they are sorting out the previous sound issues and providing a microphone and separate system for our use.
Wayne and Charles ran a tag-team effort and outlined the agenda for these Meetings:
- Normal arrival at 6:00,
- Order dinners,
- Finish dinners around 7:10,
- Committees form and discuss 7:10 – 7:45
- Committees report and Meeting sum up 7:45 – 8:00
Charles now distributed Committee lists while Wayne announced that he would be following up with 4 Members whose Working with Children licences are currently out of date.
Joseph quickly ran through who was involved in the upcoming Bunnings BBQ and then discussed the Halloween festival and the availability of volunteers. The Meeting also discussed how to approach the collection of donations. A number of suggestions were made on what to put on signs, to elicit funds, and Wayne said he would distribute a selection of options for Members to vote on.
Committees formed on separate tables and discussed their fields of expertise. Near the Agenda time, the Committees reported.
Publicity/Membership/Sponsorship/Fundraising.
Andrew summarised that they had discussed:
- Current concerns about a clash of the Market date with another potential Market (Update: this issue has gone away. Ed.),
- The measures being taken to market and publicise the Club. Some of these measures seem to be slow in coming to fruition,
- The progress of the Sponsorship Levels project. Joseph to distribute the proposed Levels, and
- There was discussion on the desirability of having a central co-ordination of projects/work that the Club is involved in, so that there no confusions or overlaps.
Youth/Community Services.
Geoff summarised their discussions as:
- Awards being granted to the Dromana Secondary College and the need to extend these Awards to the Special School and Red Hill Primary,
- Other Rotary projects, that will run next year, need an early start to their planning,
- Community Projects were discussed with a busy 3 weeks ahead, and
- Preparations for Xmas Carols, on Xmas Eve, have begun.
Foundation/International.
Harry announced that the Committee had discussed:
- The various ways of looking for unused power tools for distribution by Donations in Kind,
- Could the local papers be approached for publicity?
- Could Bunnings or Mitre 10 be approached for donations of used tools? and
- Harry volunteered himself as the contact for donated tools and enquiries.
After a brief Meeting-wide discussion Charles declared the Meeting closed at 8:00.
