President's Message

Dear Rotarians and all friends of the Rotary Club of Dromana.

First of all we hope you all have a healthy and successful year to you and your all your families in 2022.

I still can't comprehend the sad and sudden loss of our dear friend Julie Barnes, but life goes on and we will miss her but she will not be forgotten. Dear John. we will be there to support you whenever you need us.

We had our first meeting for the year breakfast at Hillview with great fellowship and well supported. Hope you enjoyed it. Thanks to the cooks and all the  organising by Greg Fitz., well done.

Please note our District Conference is coming up soon on the 25-27 FEB. in Traralgon. It will be very informative for new members, and especially for Board members and Chair members. A quick way to learn all about Rotary.

And here with just a thought on the passing of our dear friend Julie.

I must admit its never easy to console someone in difficult circumstances. What you can say, how do you act? The pain for the family is still there.

But I feel as Club President, and on behalf of all Club members of the R C  of Dromana, we must express our feelings.

Dear Julie was a perfect example of what the word Volunteer stands for, "Service above Yourself". She stood by the motto that Rotary stands for service towards others without discrimination. We and the community are going to miss your smile, but we promise we will always be there for John.

Rest in peace Julie.

A New Calendar Year – Welcome to 2022

Of course there isn’t much to report so I thought I’d just catch up on things that have been going on since our Xmas breakup. In no particular order.

The Two Bays Fun Run

Last Sunday (16th) Merv took our new trailer out to Cape Schank at the crack of dawn to set up for a BBQ for the contestants and their families. He was back again around 10:00 with more supplies and helped out 'til close and clean-up at 1:30 pm. A good day was had by all and Rick has crunched the numbers to show:

All in all a good start to our next round of fundraising.

The Xmas Twilight Market

Tony V is to be congratulated for managing to organise this and applause to his team of helpers. Once again Rick crunched the numbers:

Great support for the Southern Peninsula Community Support (SPCS) although it does seem that Santa had his own Elf on a Shelf to help.

And the Raffle was a hit, with this summary from Chris:

“The raffle prize was collected this afternoon.

Quinten, Helen and family live in Frankston and are regular attendees of our monthly market - worthy winners.

They had no plans to attend the market as Quinten had spent the previous 8 days in Frankston Hospital for a lower gut problem. He only got back home yesterday morning and his wife persuaded him to come with her to the market. They were only there a short time as Quinten was feeling tired but he purchased four raffle tickets.

Helen picked up the hamper etc. after repacking the Christmas shopping - all she could say was 'wow'.  An ecstatic family will be having a very merry Christmas.”

Some of the thanks received at end of last year

Dear Rick,

Thank you for standing with us through 2021.

Thanks to compassionate people like you, to date we’ve helped over 1,200 women from refugee and migrant backgrounds build their skills, knowledge, independence, confidence, and economic outlook.

We can't wait to share the exciting developments and milestones 2022 has in store. Until then, we wish you and your families a safe Christmas and very happy New Year!

With love and thanks,
The SisterWorks Team
