Happenings at last week’s Meeting
President Charles began the Meeting by introducing our Guest Speakers, Joanne Barden and Katie Symonds, who will be talking about Retirement Living. He then introduced a visiting Rotarian, Pennie Ibbotson, and a prospective Member, Peter Collins.
As the applause died down, he then handed the Meeting over to the nights Chair, Chris. In a speedy transition, Chris now invited Joanne and Katie up to the lectern.
Joanne and Katie are from the Village Glen and gave the Members an outline of the history of the facility and the options available:
- The Village Glen has been in operation for over 40 years;
- It is owned by the founding family;
- Offers Retirement Living, Home Support and Aged Care Residences;
- Also offers short stay respite cottages for carers;
- Maintains Residents connections to the community;
- Promotes living in-home for as long as possible for aged care residents;
- Home care packages come in various levels, from 1 to 4;
- The Retirement Village has villas ranging from 1-bedroom ($275,000), 2-bedroom, 2-bedroom and a study, up to 3-bedroom ($1.1m)’
- There are many groups catering to all interests and activities;
- The Aged Care Facility is being divested, but will still be associated with the Residences, so the Glen can concentrate on Residential Care. Aged Care is different to Retirement Living, and has incurred increased government regulations which complicates things; and
- The average entry age to the Residence is 76, with many new arrivals saying they left it too late before deciding.
After taking a number of questions from the Members, Chris thanked Joanne and Katie and presented them with a token of our appreciation. (Pens again! Ed.)
President Charles had no Presidents Report this week. (Early days. Ed) So the Chair called for the Secretary’s Report.
Wayne reported mostly from the last Board Meeting:
- Greg has managed to get Moore Civil involved with the Tiny Houses Project (see below);
- There was a number of housekeeping e-mails, including the subject of the extent of insurance covers;
- There may be a potential clash between the Shire work on updating the parking and playground at the Hillview Reserve and the Club Halloween Celebration. To be investigated and may require a special general meeting;
- The Community Garden General Meeting will be held on 6th August; and
- As a fund-raising project it was proposed that a “casino themed” night be organised, possibly in Feb-Mar.
The Chair now called for the Treasurers Report and Tony obliged:
- When responding to the Attendance Request, please only “Reply” don’t “Reply All”;
- Members Dues are due (stylish phrasing what? Ed);
- Directors are requested to supply their Operating Budgets; and
- Correspondence has also been received regarding the clash with Halloween.
It was now time for the Directors Reports.
Harry (International) announced that the Government would be supporting overseas/international volunteers. Donation In Kind (DIK) are expected to put forward dates in September for the demonstration of the SkyHydrant. Donations will be required from multiple Clubs to support this effort.
Chris, talking for Membership and Funds asked if the Members were still supportive of the Two Bays Fun Run BBQ, and received a general affirmative. Bunnings are offering two extra days, to be investigated. Also, there has been a suggestion of the Club having an On-line Raffle, also to be investigated.
Pete reported that the last Bunnings BBQ made a profit of over $1600. (Queue Applause. Ed)
The Lotto was now drawn and won by Harry. Much to Pete’s “dismay”, the Fines Session was postponed. (Allegedly due to time constraints. Ed)
Greg now reported on the state of the Tiny Houses Project. Donations from Moore Civil are helping us towards our financial goal but the prospective site/s is still an issue. The Shire will continue to be contacted.
Harry quickly chipped in to say that the SkyHydrant demo for the Dromana Secondary College will be in the next term.
At this point, the Chair handed the Meeting back to President Charles who announced that the next Meeting is a Committees Meeting and will be held at the Jetty Road Brewery again.
The Meeting closed at 8:00.
Spare Council Waste Vouchers
Once again Pete Anderson is placing a call-out to anyone who has council waste vouchers that they will not be using before expiry. If you have any, just pass them over to Pete and he will make very good use of them.
