Hi all

It was great to see you, Ray and Elaine back on Zoom last week. We all wish you both better health that you have been subjected to of late.

FUNDRAISING IDEA – DIGITAL GALA DINNER
This idea comes from Mt Martha club and may be an opportunity for us to join in the concept it is a great idea and could involve many clubs. More on this later.

LUCAS MILL PROJECT
It is gratifying to see a number of members prepared to donate to the project. Hopefully by next meeting we will be able to let you know more

RORP
RORP has the full support of DG Mark Humphries , International District Chair Colin Byron and DG Elect Bill Degnan who are all encouraging clubs to identify playgrounds for harvest in their domain.

So what Is RORP click below and you will see

https://rotaryflemington.org.au/sitepage/rotary-overseas-recycled-playgrounds-1/the-rorp-story.

COMMITTEES
Unless you have been overlook or failed to volunteer earlier in the year you are all members of committees and if you don't know look at the bottom of the bulletin.
It is the duty of your Chairmen to call committee meetings and get some ideas, even more important now, in these strange times.

DISTRICT FIRESIDE CHAT
I encourage anyone just to connect and join in and get to meet other Rotarians in the District to chat about anything. These are a regular occurrence hosted by DG Mark.

IDEAS
We are still desperate for ideas someone in the club must have some let us know the rest of us are anxiously waiting

NEXT MEETING
As you can see form this bulletin or from our Website our next speaker and is travelling all the way form Safety Beach via Zoom to talk about Refugee Support.

Hope to see you all on Thursday evening when Board members may have something to report!

Happenings at the last meeting

John Whalley, Dennis McKeegan and Graham Morris gave a presentation on the Dromana Mens Shed

There are now  more than 325 sheds in Victoria and over 1000 in Australia.  The sheds are about the sharing of members interests and allowing members to work on community projects and their own projects.    There are about 75 members who work with tuition from technical leaders in the use of equipment to construct items in wood and metal.  The shed is well-resourced; they have recently installed a dust extraction system. The shed is open each week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Some of the community projects include rebuilding picnic tables and seats, making bench seats and rubbish bins for the Golf club, supplying 100s of animal cut-outs for us, refurbishing bikes that are collected by a sponsor VinsBins.  Rocking horses and refurbish school desks are later sold to raise funds.

They have outings away from the shed and they over the last 2 years have hosted shedders big day out with more than 300 members from around the state.

They have good support and assistance from the Council and local businesses.  In the early years the Bunnings barbeques were the basis of their funding. Last year the shed was extended to accommodate new members, storage and equipment and a cost of $45,000.  A new fitness area will be installed in the extension through a grant of $7,000.  But first they need to fund the extension. They have about half the funds and expect to raise the remainder in the next 12 months.

Tyrell had a coffee pot restored by the men’s shed and speaks highly of their work.

Lynne asked if they have made coffins, They have made a couple of coffins, but they are reasonable expensive to do so.

Bob: Spoke about the Rotary shine-on awards and we should consider possible awardees.  Regarding the shipping containers for the homeless, Bob sent a message to Shire Councillors, who were very supportive, but said that there could be some significant hurdles to solve.  There about 600 people who sleep rough each night.  Tony mention that the temporary accommodation for mining accommodation might be suitable.

Any members wishing to support the Mill project should send an email to Rick.

Ray has had an infusion to support him immune system and is feeling ok. Elaine is having an issue with asthma. Otherwise they are OK. We all hope that the treatments are successful.

Margaret Booth is up and down due to changes in the weather and are hoping for good results tomorrow.

Bees in your backyard
A number of members are interested in having hive boxes in their gardens. Roger Macmillan has been following up on how this can be done.  He is corresponding with Robin Stewart from EZRAG for ideas on how we can get more involved, and Greg Fitz is working on getting some funds from RI to rehabilitate a large area in Hillview Reserve for koalas and putting in special plants suitable for cross pollination from bees, wasps, moths, and various other critters.

A response from Robin illustrates different designs types and Roger has asked the Mens Shed about building suitable hives.

Carol's Week.

Thank heavens the Government changed the rule of not driving to your walking area. On the Peninsula there are many people who live where there are no footpaths, roads too steep or roads too dangerous to walk alongside, or you would constantly have to expose yourself to toxic fumes. At the start many used the road to gauge the distance, but it is as the crow flies. Still many of us live further than five km. to a shopping centre. Two of my paintings are travelling far away to reach their home. For one that goes to Coff's Harbour, I had planned a trip to personally deliver in exchange of a bed for the night.

Ginny McMillan

Born in Ringwood Victoria – 12th born child of my courageous Mum – she gave birth to 13 children. I have a twin sister – I have five sisters and four brothers still living.

My sisters are my friends we all get along well and love each other – four sisters live on the Mornington Peninsula and one has a holiday home in Point Lonsdale – we catch up there together often.

We grew up in a strict Catholic home going to church every Sunday and going to a girls school and the boys to a boys school. We had a good education.

Left home at 17 – 1st married when I was 21 – had a wonderful step son who was just 10 years old -he lived with me – we had a beautiful relationship not always easy – he died of melanoma at 39 – he was a blessing to me.

Met Roger who you all know well - in 2009 – he is truly a wonderful human being –had a few struggles due to PTSD – Roger supported me and I am a new person after counselling at his suggestion. I experience a lot of peace in my life now like I had never known before.

We got married – I have a wonderful step daughter and 2 absolutely gorgeous grandsons – They call me Ninny – Roger is a great husband and Father and Grandfather – He is so good to his daughter – which speaks volumes to me - they are truly blessed to have each other.

I am now a director at McMillan Real Estate and I manage our holiday place -Summertime Cottage in Tasmania – which I really enjoy.

I am a Christian with a strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father and the Holy Spirit – a faith I am lucky enough to have – it sometimes feels like it’s a rude word to say you are a Christian in today's world even though we were bought up in a Christian country. I am glad I believe in God.

I nominate Mary Anderson for now next contributor.

On the lighter side

A senior’s version of Facebook
For those of my generation who do not, and cannot comprehend why Facebook exists: I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same principles.  Therefore every day I walk down the street and tell passers-by what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will do later and with whom.  I give them pictures of my family, my dog and of me gardening, taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving around town, having lunch, and doing what anybody and everybody does every day.  I also listen to their conversations, give them “thumbs-up” and tell them I “like” them.  And it works just like Facebook. I already have 4 people following me: 2 police officers, a private investigator and a psychiatrist.
