President's Message

Fellow members, as the next meeting is set aside to discuss Bylaws I thought I should make my thoughts known. I am aware that Mark Long has invested a lot of time and effort into this process and I would like to thank him for his work.

I have spoken to David Hanlon at District 9820 and consulted him on our proposals. He felt that dealing with Bylaws at this stage is premature as a fresh Constitution (Rules) and Bylaws are being prepared by a solicitor for all Victorian Clubs. Following amendments made at the Council of Legislation, RI issued a new Club Constitution and Bylaws and these are being discussed with Consumer Affairs Vic so as to conform to the Victorian Incorporated Associations Act. These changes are due soon.

So, until this work is done, I feel that all changes can wait as nothing proposed will cause us any problems and, in the short term, most items can be dealt with at board level.

My recommendation is that we do nothing at the present. Our major problem facing the club is the recruitment of new members. Without new members all our projects will suffer.

The meeting on the 14th is a Christmas Party so all partners are invited along.

The 21st is our Evening Market and Carols so come along and keep Santa company!!

The Board meeting is on after this Wednesday's meeting.

Happenings at the AGM

Ailsa once again generously donated her house for our AGM. On arrival we were greeted by Merv and Bob slaving away at the BBQ and then progressed around to the fire-pit area. Freda Donaldson and Wanda Fitzgerald had co-ordinated the salads and desserts, so the night was well catered for.

After this sumptuous repast, and a chance to relax and digest, we repaired inside and conducted the Meeting.

This was conducted by President Greg with Secretary Mark taking the official minutes. In summary the meeting ran thus:
  • Apologies and Welcoming of Guests;
  • Confirmation of a quorum;
  • Confirmation of the minutes of previous AGM;
  • Any matters arising from previous AGM;
  • Financial & Treasurers Report;
  • Confirmation of incoming President (2023-2024);
  • Nominations for President for Rotary Year 2024-2025;
  • Nomination of Board Members for incoming year (2023-2024); and
  • General Business.
It was an efficient meeting with all points agreed on by a unanimous vote.

On completion, we were able to wander in the garden (with Molly the dog) and watch the view down the valley to Bass Strait as the day drew to a close.

The Blister Pack Collection
Just a reminder to keep collecting all those pill blister packs, when you’ve done with them, or any aluminium foils. We are nearing the Xmas close-down so get them to her or Rod as soon as you can.

NORMALLY, if you cannot attend the meeting, then please send your apologies to
Rick Hayllar only by email: rhayllar@bigpond.net.au, or phone on 0409 940 033, before the MIDDAY on the Tuesday preceding the meeting.
ADDITIONALLY, Rick will send out an email requesting information on who is attending, to aid in catering.
Catering for meals is expensive, if you do not apologise your meal has been paid for and all your fellow members suffer the loss.
