President's Message
member photo
Dear Rotary members and all friends from Rotary.

If you have a birthday or anniversary, congratulations and have a great day..

We are going to have a great guest speaker this week. We welcome Linda Humphries, who holds the District 9820 Membership position. She is here to help and inform us on how to invite new members to the club.

All incoming new Directors or Chair Persons. I want to encourage you to attend the upcoming Club Development Programs. (Formally know as District Assemblies). The encouragement and information will help you in your position for 22:23, and I can not stress this enough.

I hope that anyone can help us with setting up the Market early in the morning and cleaning up after 1-30 pm, as it would be greatly appreciated. This is team work and it is a great fund raiser for the club. It got us thru the Covid  thanks to you all.

Take care, Harry.

Generosity is not just about Money,
We can also give Time, Ideas, and Energy.

Happenings at last weeks’ meeting

Because of the Club sticking to the “no Politics, no Religion” rule our expected speakers did not appear so I thought I would have an easy week reporting on what went on at the meeting. No such luck, as this unleashed an avalanche of talk which I will now try and report on.

Bernard Dobson was our Chair and he handed over the mike to President Harry. (which I’m not sure is a great idea).

Harry spoke about:
  • The P.E.T. Seminar which is focused on Club Development and will be held on Saturday the 30th April and Sunday 1st May with Sunday being open for everyone to attend.
  • During the Shed cleanup an amount of Club property was found.
  • A team was requested to put new site numbers on the curb for the Market.
  • Last Sunday the Cluster Group met in Mornington.
  • It is important that we receive more support, from the Club members, in setting up for the monthly Market. This is the major fund raiser for our Club.
  • In May we have the opportunity to attend a demonstration of the Sky Hydrant from Disaster Aid. It is important that more Members learn about this aid asset.
Next, Bernard called on Secretary Chris who covered the following topic:
  • Rotary is very much focused on the sense that “what we say, and how we behave” matters.
  • There has been an email from Don Ripper covering the restructuring of the Districts which covered everything required in ’23.
  • The Haemophiliac Foundation of Australia has approached us for a donation.
  • The shed cleanup, mentioned by Harry, has produced a number of historic documents which will be catalogued and passed on to the appropriate Director.
Then next we had Chris delivering this weeks GIG on the subject of ‘Why I Joined Rotary”:

In 1991 Chris’ wife was a member of the Soroptimist International in Cobden who were in partnership with Rotary. Chris took the view that “ the busier you are the better Rotarian you are” and applied to join in Berwick. He had an interview with the older members of the club and, after introducing Margaret, had to wait two weeks until being inducted. Lions did not pursue him, whereas Rotary displayed a commitment.

After Lotto, Fines seemed to be aimed at those of us who had been lucky enough to have had holidays.

Rick announced that nearly $2,000 had been donated to flood relief.

Harry announced that the Mornington Shire had committed $10m to the Bay Trail project.

Next, Greg announced:
  • that the initial quote for the supply and installation of the new table at Safety Beach was $12,000. A new estimate was being looked into where we would do a lot of the work. In this estimate the table was starting at $3,000.
  • The Dromana Association Earth Day Festival was being held on the 22nd April and a petition was being circulated to take over Pat’s Paddocks from the Shire so as to start a re-greening, and an adventure park, project. Please Sign The Petition.
Adrian had an update on the Friendship Exchange, having discussed the opportunities associated with the Convention in May next year, with the current and future District Governors. A District to District exchange, instead of a Club to Club exchange, is still to be discussed and decided on.

Geoff Taylor had a brief explanation on Rotary Foundation:
  • This is a part of Rotary with all Clubs contributing to District and Global Grants.
  • Grants may vary with partnerships to be found to finance such options as “mercy ships”.
  • RF had $1.5B in the bank, of which $35sM was given out last year alone. A major recipient has been Polio eradication. The success of this initiative has been funded with up to $1.2B from Rotary and has meant that even the Taliban has relented on it’s opposition to the program.
  • RF requires the funding of between $3-$5,000 per Club.
  • The Centurions Club recognises contribution from Club Members of $100.
  • The Paul Harris Foundation recognises contributions of $1,000 either from an individual or Club.

Harry tied off on the meeting by reiterating the success of the Polio Eradication Project and restating the importance of the upcoming District Conference.

A full and informative meeting which finished at 8:10.

The Next Market.
Great Community Initiative.

Questions of the Destination of Donations.

Try this.

Request from Peter A.
"If anyone has spare tip vouchers could they please bring them to Thursdays meeting, or drop them off at Mirage. There are around 30 tyres at Ann Buchanan's to be disposed of and the tip charge is one voucher per tyre."
 Many thanks,

“Fellow Rotarians

At last weeks Meeting, Greg mentioned an activity centred around Global Warming & various Renewable Technologies that are evolving. It is an initiative of the Dromana Association to improve awareness & understanding in the local community

Attached is a flyer addressing this at the Dromana Drive In Theatre, to be held on Earth Day Friday 22 April. This will be a free event.

The event will screen two films by award winning director Damon Gameau of Regen Studios: Regenerating Australia and 2040.  There will also be a lead-up exhibition of electric vehicles, solar and other renewable technologies, along with organisations actively involved in renewable, regenerative and circular economy activities.

The Dromana Association website has an event page with a link to ticket bookings.  https://dromana.org.au/dromanas-climate-festival/

The Dromana Association will also be using the event to promote the concept of a Dromana Community Carbon Forest. There is a community survey using the Monkey platform also available on the above website
