Happenings at last weeks’ meeting
Even though Covid -19 is not the lead story on the news these days, it still manages to impact on our daily lives. In this case it meant that our scheduled speaker, Linda Humphries was in quarantine and unable to attend our meeting. We wish her well and look forward to her visiting us in the future.
Michael Anderson was seconded as our Chair and he handed over the mike to Secretary Chris for a brief update which was about a $579 fee refund to the Market under the Councils Covid Hardship Policy.
Based on the principle that a quick meeting was a good meeting, Michael introduced Mark Long for this weeks GIG.
Mark briefly spoke about being on the Peninsular for 7-8 years and feeling that he needed to do “something”. The choices open to him included either Rotary or Lions and Pete Anderson suggested that he try Rotary. He made that step and finds himself “in interesting times”.
Next up was President Harry who spoke about:
- The P.E.T. (President Elect Training) Seminar which is focused on Club Development and will be held on Saturday the 30th April and Sunday 1st May. With Sunday being open for everyone to attend.
- Bob, Greg and Tony have put out new numbers for the Market stalls.
- Although the Bay Trail was mentioned in the Shire Update Magazine the involvement of Rotary in the whole Project was not mentioned. This will be looked into.
- All the best to the Members and their families for Easter.
Next, we had Lotto (won by Rod after a lively intellectual discussion about the representation of a 6 or a 9 depending on how you positioned the “-“). Fines were handed out (with a certain relish exhibited in “catching” your Ed).
Tony put out a request for members to assist with the next Market (23rd April) as he will be away. Also,
- The State Liberal candidate for Nepean will be afforded a stall at the Market in the interest of fairness.
- The Trailer will be registered by Monday.
Harry next mentioned that the Rosebud/Rye Rotary would be having a luncheon on 29th May inform and raise money for future Sky Hydrants.
Greg then announced that the Bay Trail Table costs had been brought down substantially by the use of MAW Civil in the manufacturing.
Chris briefly introduced the subject of what to do about “missing” members but then went off tangentially on to the subject of keeping Orangutans warm in a New Zealand winter.
Harry finished off the meeting by reiterating the importance of the Peninsular Bay Trail project. Council has already committed $10m with the Federal Government putting in the order of $4m so far. Anthony’s Nose is one of the major issues with the nearby caravan park requiring it’s access is maintained.
The meeting was finished at 7:50.

"If anyone has spare tip vouchers could they please bring them to Thursdays meeting, or drop them off at Mirage. There are around 30 tyres at Ann Buchanan's to be disposed of and the tip charge is one voucher per tyre."
