Greg proposed the Rotary Toast Invocation was presented by Harry SECRETARY Chris Booth mentioned correspondence, not much this week. LOTTO was won by Lynn. FINE session went well. There was no gig The Club conducted a BBQ at Bunnings on Friday to support the "Very Special Kids” organisation and to help Rosebud Rye Rotary out on the day The Club’s efforts raised $799 for the Very Special Kids and many thanks to our Club volunteers on the day as its not always easy to get a full complement of starters for each event, especially on a Friday. I must also mention that Agnus (Mike Smith’s partner) helped out with the BBQ and many thanks for the work, and humour Agnus put into the last shift of the day. It should also be noted that Mike Smith and I maintained a "Green Approach" to the end of day clean up as we did our civil duty by “disposing” a few burnt/unsaleable sausages instead of dumping them in the waste. Cheers Tony THE GUEST SPEAKER Excellent visiting speaker again this week: Terry Wheeler the captain of the victorious Dromana 2018 Seniors football team after recently winning the Grand Final against Red Hill. Terry came from Sale and now lives in Frankston and has played for Dromana for 4 years. He barracks for Essendon and keeps himself fit by training all year around. Terry explained that the last Grand final Dromana won was in 2013 after which many long term experienced players retired. After this time the seniors team was lacking and had to rebuild. The Under 19 team did well at that time so those players were targeted to be developed for the future senior team. This took time and this year’s win is the result. At the beginning of the season this year the seniors won the first nine games with their first loss to Red Hill. The larger oval and its rounder shape was a challenge to Dromana so that was considered in strategy planning. Dromana at the end of the season was three games up on top of the ladder. At the end of games Dromana played Red Hill In the Grand Final at Frankston. From the lessons learned playing Red Hill in an early final also, they were optimistic. The game was hard fought with Dromana winning by 8 points. Players, coaches and supporters enjoyed their success for many days! As a result Dromana Football seniors have been promoted to a higher division, Division 1, and look forward to the challenge as they have still many skilled players to take them to the future successfully. Terry commented on the Netball part of their association also. Netball teams are growing and improving. This year 3 out of the 4 teams reached finals. This had not happened previously. Teams need more netball courts and are hoping to have some built near the football complex. IS MERV'S BACK OUT TO, BIT OF A LEAN THERE OLD BOY... PICS OF THE ROSEBUD/RYE ROTARY CLUB WAREHOUSE.
