President's Message
member photo
Hi Members and friends. It was good to host District Governor Paul Mee and Adele. We had an informative night. Assistant Governor Peter Rawlings gave us a heads up on the upcoming vote for the restructuring of the Pacific Zone.

We also received volume V and V1 of the District Historical records, these give us a reminder of the past office bearers and projects of ours, and the districts clubs between 1998 and 2018. I will hand these over to Merv Prossor for safekeeping. Ask him if you want to have a look. They will be a useful reference for our 50yr celebration.
We have two hands-on projects coming up. First is the working bee at Hillview Community Reserve 9am this Saturday the 20th.

And we need to replace the corroded bolts on the Rotary Shelter opposite the newsagents. I suggest 9am 25th August.

Remember That the District Conference committee is looking for people to host Rotarians from out of town. Please give it your consideration.

Happenings at last weeks’ meeting

Firstly, I must apologise for the late arrival of this Bulletin. I had a major melt-down of my PC after it’s near completion and had to start again. Consequently this section will be short but I hope I hit the main points.

President Greg welcomed our guests, District Governor Paul Mee and his wife Adele and Assistant Governor Peter Rawlings. After proposing the toast he then called on Secretary Michael for his report.

Michael read out the apologies and then referred to the e-mail announcing Rotary Leadership Institute courses being held at the Gippsland Rotary Centenary House.

Acting Sergeant Merv then conducted the Lotto which Murray won again. He then handed out fines which included fines for those not wearing ties (the majority) and those wearing ties (Merv).

Greg now called on Paul. After some technical challenges, Paul showed us an amusing video promoting the next District Conference at the RACV Cape Schanck Resort. Registrations are available online with the Saturday functions costing $220 and the Sunday breakfast $40.

Next, Paul spoke to the drive for Diversity, Equality and Inclusion which is being championed by the Rotary International President, Jennifer Jones. Rotary funds are available for any club project working towards these goals. Adele then spoke on promoting Rotary and pointed out that there are District specialists available to talk to Clubs.

Rotary is an organisation which provides the opportunity to serve the international and local community. The meeting discussed why members had joined Rotary and raised the need for a push to raise our national public image.

Now Peter gave us an update on the Regionalisation meeting and also spoke about our Clusters involvement:
  • The Mornington Peninsular Trail Project;
  • An Interplast Dinner scheduled for 8th Novemeber; and
  • Working on the major issue on homelessness on the Peninsular.
Greg thanked all our guests for an informative and entertaining meeting which finished at 8:10.

Working with Children.

Don’t forget to keep your certification up to date.

The Fees.

And now a word from our Treasurer.

Membership Subscriptions

Membership Subscriptions for the 2022-23 are now due.  Invoices have been distributed and thankfully many members have already paid their subs.  However, we still have a large number who have not yet done so.
The Club Account, into which the Subs are paid, is used to pay club expenses including contributions to Rotary International.

At the end of June, there were insufficient funds in the account to meet our requirements and so a transfer of $3,000 from the Project Account was made into the Club Account.  This, and the receipt of funds from members for subscriptions and meals has meant that we have been able to pay our expenses.  However, the transfer must be repaid.

Prompt payment of subscriptions by members will enable this to happen.  If you have misplaced your Invoice, please let me know.  dobsonb@bigpond.com

Best Wishes
Bernard Dobson

School Project in Fiji – a message from Tyrrell.

“I have read the emails explaining the project in Fiji of building the new school to which various 9820 clubs have committed funds.  I believe it is a worthwhile project to which we could contribute if funds were available.

I recently sent an email to Debra Riedel to confirm she will be in Australia on 24th August and visiting our Club dinner meeting. Debra has confirmed she and her partner will be attending.  As I understand the night has been listed as a partner’s night and I hope Debra will give a report on the project. I suggest Debra be a guest of the Club that night and if possible her partner as well, if not Maggie and I will foot the bill.  I also suggest the Club present to Debra a certificate of appreciation for her assistance with our project.

Today I had bad news from my doctors that as I was not as yet walking unassisted then I would be transferred to care in another facility. My reaction was less than enthusiastic and following another meeting with my physio it is now hopeful that I will be discharged on Friday 19th August. If so Maggie and I hope to be in attendance on the 24th.

Regards
Tyrrell”

Thanks.

It has been pointed out that Roger McMillan still provides a valuable service to the Club even though he is unable to attend, therefore the Club would like to extend our thanks for the printing of material that Roger provides.

Up in the Clouds.

Time restricts the amount I can give to this. Sorry Rick, I know it doesn’t do it justice.

Vale – Joy Liddel.

A message from Rick.
“I have just received the sad news that Joy Liddell widow of ex-member Les, died recently but not sure when.

Joy was for many years, a wonderful supporter of our Club.

However, her funeral will be held at St Marks Church Dromana on 26th of August at 2.00 pm and then on to the Peninsula Club.
Rick”

NORMALLY, if you cannot attend the meeting, then please send your apologies to

Michael Anderson only by email: mikvic@bigpond.voc.au, or phone on 0438 944 924, before the MIDDAY on the Tuesday preceding the meeting.

ALTERNATIVELY, Michael will send out an email requesting information on who is attending, to aid in catering.

Catering for meals is expensive, if you do not apologise your meal has been paid for and all your fellow members suffer the loss.
