Happenings at the last meeting
This week we had a hastily called Zoom meeting due to a last minute Covid incident/infection at the Golf Club. In line with this, the attendance was one of the smallest we have had.
The meeting started with a brief discussion on whether it was essential that we conduct a meeting each and every week. Generally it was felt that, if circumstances conspire to make a Club Night ineffective then it probably shouldn’t go ahead. As this would be an extremely rare occasion, the members felt it would do no harm to the Club’s communications and fellowship.
The latest BBQ at Bunnings was a great success, making a profit of $1392.39. The public voiced their appreciation with comments such as it was a “restart of the world and had no issues with wearing masks for the occasion.
The Club has been approached about the possibility of having a BBQ set up at Cape Schanck for the Two Bays Fun Run on Sunday 16th January. Tony Viney is to be contacted, by Chris, to see if this is a good option for us. Also for discussion with Tony are; the Cranbourne West Primary School project to purchase fresh food and the Rosebud Secondary College wanting to restart provide breakfasts.
The saga of the missing grant monies continues with further investigations and now a bank search if an EFT receipt can be found. (exciting isn’t it!).
Rick announced that Bernard Dobson has kindly agreed to take up the post of Assistant Treasurer. (be careful Bernard, these “assistant” roles can sometimes grow out of all recognition).
Greg kept us up to date on the Hillview work which is on time and a working bee to clean up is scheduled for 20th November.
Harry queried if there was any interest in the End Polio Now fundraiser night at a viewing of the film “The Duke”. Anyone interested please let Harry know.
The future of using the Golf Club as our meeting venue was discussed. While we can self-cater while they recover their catering capacity the new offering will probably be more expensive. Also, the management have been “suggesting” that they would prefer it if we shifted our meeting night to Tuesdays. This whole question is being discussed by the Board and options will be presented to the membership.
The Xmas party will be at the Bowls Club at a date to be announced.
Harry thanked all those who could attend on short notice and the meeting finished at 8:00 pm.
And Now, Something From Rick.
"More Club History.
Our Club Rostrum
Many years ago about the commencement of this millennium our then member, and Past District Governor Alan Lyall decided that our club needed a Hi tech rostrum, complete with an inbuilt PA system. So Alan built one for us.
Sometime later we acquired a wireless microphone system and that was added to unit.
Some year's later when the Old Shire Offices were equipped with a PA System, we stopped using the inbuilt PA. Someone in their wisdom then decided to remove the amplifier and microphone system and stuck them our cupboard at the old Shire Offices where they remained until our big clean out a few months ago and transferred to the Church shed in a box or two. A few weeks ago Harry, Bob and myself sorted through the boxes and we unearthed these ancient treasures.
I immediately recognised them and took the lot home to test them.
I am delighted to announce that it is all in working order. It is my intention therefore to re install the system in our the unit so will be independent again.
As you will remember we have had some PA issues at the Golf Club."
