Happenings at the meeting on the 3rd September
The club was saddened to hear that David Buchanan has suffered a heart attack on Tuesday afternoon. There was a concern that he may not have received help in time. He is having x-rays tonight and they are looking to see if there are any long term effects. Ann is doing fine and is managing well.

He has received information from Rotary Health about the “Lift the Lid” project. On Saturday 10 October there is to be a zoom meeting, with eminent doctors and professors to talk about mental health.
On October 24 Oct, It is World Polio day. Africa is now free. Afghanistan is still the current hotspot for polio and they are looking to raise $50M to rid the country of polio. Funds from Rotary are matched 2:1 by the Gates foundation
The district is organising project to assist residents in Cambodia. They are looking to raise $5,000 through a trivia night.
The last meeting was a club night with all directors and leaders giving a report on their portfolio.
Adrian Davies, Membership Director, has suggested that we have a special function for each member to bring a potential member. He wants to have a women night organised by women and a target to 10 new members this year.
Treasurer Mark, $4150 sent to the Rotary club of Lakes Entrance and there is very little to assist other groups.
Harry Stated that there was a meeting with the Council officers on the “housing for the homeless” project. There was good discussion and the answer was not a “yes” or a “no”. Here are few bridges to cross. One was who would manage the use of the housing.
Ross, International Director, said If he had some money he would spend it in Fiji and New Guinea.
Terry, New Generation. National Youth Science Forum. There were 700 applicants and our nominee is through the selection process. It is unclear what the format is going to be.
School grants to the Dromana Secondary College are on hold as District funds not yet available.
Chris, brought up the idea of a potential debate between schools and he and suggested that he and Terry consider this further.
Tony, director for Community service and fundraising, recommended that we create story books on Facebook to enable stall holders to link their Facebook page to ours.
Next we should update our Facebook page with good news stories (both local and international). We need to be more visible in the local area and we should be supplying the local paper with news stories. We should survey what Rotary can do in the area.
Chris said that there was no raffle this year.
Roger spoke about out list of guest speakers. He is also working on a rotary project on the environment and improving the bee populations by building hives, and assisting bees including local bees, moths and other insects to pollinate plants and trees. The Dromana Mens shed have offered to make the bee boxes. Rotary for bees is an initiative from the Rotary Club in Canterbury. Tony suggested that we should market the rotary for bees at the market. We could also sell the bees box there.
Ray suggested that we could use” go-fund me” to raise funds. This was going to followed up. Rick indicated that if we sell some advertising in the RDU Magazine, RDU will give us a commission.
President Rick, said that our club and Sorrento have been praised the money raised for the purchase of the Lucas Mill and some spare parts.
Andrew, asked if we can collect excess fresh vegetables grown in the neighbourhood and donate them to residents and the Dromana Community House Second Bite project.
Greg said that he has a spare “spinner” that could be placed somewhere. Let the Board know of your suggestions.
