Zooms meetings of the future.

Although we yearn for the face to face meetings there will always be a need for the quick get to together for an ad hoc or planned committee meeting. You can scheduled a time and meet and discuss and makes some decisions without spending that extra time and travel.

Last Meetings I attempted to set up what Zoom calls "Breakout Rooms". Only Secretary Bob managed to join! I take the blame for not showing you how to join. WE will be more successful on the next time

Hopefully by now you all know that you can download the free version of Zoom and created a meeting that lasts up to 45 minutes. In this way you can keep in contact with family and friends wherever they are.

This weeks meeting we will be making full use of the Zoom when we have our international Guest Speaker Patrick Kizehe "Giving refugees hope in Uganda". Based in Canada, Patrick is the director of this project and has approached us asking if he could be a guest speaker.

Hope to see you all on Thursday night.

Regards

Rick

Hello Everyone, we feel a little disappointed still having to obey the five km. lock-down. But when you think about life we are the privileged ones. On the last quiet Sunday, I thought people must be at church, then I remembered churches, mosques, synagogues and temples have been closed, not regarded as places of refuge as in previous catastrophic events. How the world has changed, we may live to see Melbourne a Phantom City, empty offices, large department stores divided up, masked pedestrians looking like the Venice Carnavale. Use your computer to enjoy this event in Venice vicariously. Enjoy a sunny week.

ciao Carol

ELAINE TAYLOR (McRAE)

I was born in Mildura in 1951 the third daughter of the family. We moved to Melbourne in 1953 settling in Huntingdale which was very close to my grandparents who lived a few houses away. My brother was born a few years later.      I went to Oakleigh high school. I sort of knew Geoff then as he was a friend of my neighbour.I left school at 15 and worked as a Law Clerk in Oakleigh. I met up with Geoff again when I was 18; we were married a 19. We settled in Glen Waverley. Our first house cost us $11,850.00. A few years later we built a house in Heathmont staying there for five years. As we spent most summer days at Rye, we decided to move to our block at Main Ridge and build there; 41 years and still there. Along the way we had 4 children Shannon, Melanie, Daniel and Mathew, they are all in their 40's now. Very proud nanny of 8. For many years I worked with Geoff in the building business. I was lucky he sacked me a few years ago.

I spend a good deal of my time volunteering at "Clothes for You", an organisation in Rosebud helping women in need.

I nominate Bernadette O'Day to tell her story

Happenings at the last meeting.

Tyrrell McGeever was inducted as a Rotary member of our club.   Maggie McGeever was all inducted as a Rotary Honorary member.  We are delighted that Tyrrell and Maggie have decided to re-join the club.

Lyne reported that David Buchanan has not progressed this week. is not doing well.  He cannot walk and talk. He cannot swallow and he cannot move this arms. This is unlikely to be a long term recovery.  We wish David and Ann all the best for his speedy recovery.

Harry requested that members nominate for positions in the 20-21 year.

Secretary Bob: The AGM will be on Thursday 26 November.  On the 29 October DG will  be visiting.  He will meet at 6:00pm with the directors and with all members at 7:00.
The men’s shed have asked about selling their reconditioned bicycles at the market.
There has been discussion about starting work at the Dromana Community centre in late October.
The Carols by Candlelight has not been cancelled as yet.  In the meantime, the Lions club of McCrea are intending to a hold a Christmas function at the drive in and asked if we are interested in assisting.

Treasurer Mark:  Members has supported Interplast by about $450.  The board has decided to withdraw $8,000 from the investment account to support our activities.

Terry:  we have agreed that we have now two applicants for NYSF as the cost has been reduced by not having to travel to Canberra.  We are funding half the cost at $950 per student

Tony.  Bob and Rick will assist in marking up the prk in preparation of the market.

Greg reported on the bay trails around the peninsula.  Our section is the area around  Anthony’s nose.  It will probably be a raised structure.  Greg believes we should be building a trail under the chair lift.
