President's Message

A reminder that this week’s meeting is at the Southern Peninsula Community Support Centre which is located at 878 Nepean Hwy, Rosebud which is just near Jetty Road. Please be there by 6pm. If you are unable to attend please notify Mark Long ASAP.

From all accounts the market was very successful. I don’t have the final figure to hand, but I am sure Bernard will inform us on Wednesday. From all reports ‘Santa’ was a big hit (thank you Tony).

Last week we inducted Agnes Smith into our Club. Thank you for the support you have given her in making her welcome.

I am disappointed that so far some director’s have not appointed members to their respective committees. As we know, like most Clubs, members are at a premium, but I would like this situation rectified by mid-August, otherwise I will nominate members to the various committees.

I believe Elaine is progressing very well and can’t wait to return home. I hear she has already ‘escaped’ a couple of times.

We are finalizing Mock Interviews with Balcombe Grammar and as in previous years we are looking for Volunteers. If you wish to volunteer please notify Lyn Lewis. You must have a Working with Children certificate to be eligible. The interviews are to be held on Wednesday 23rd August. Numbers are required by the end of this week please. Further details to be provided.

N.B. (An abbreviation for the Latin phrase Nota Bene meaning “note well”)

Just to emphasise President Micks information above, the meeting on the 26th is at the SPCSC digs and we meet at 878 Point Nepean Road Rosebud (beach side, just South of Jetty Road). Congregate by the driveway at the left of the building at 6pm.

Also, in order to give some notice to those I nominate for each weeks Chair there has been a suggestion made. This will be discussed at one of our Meetings but here is my suggestion. I publish a list of five people, the Chair for this week (Chair), the Chair for the next week (Future Chair 1), the Chair for the following week (Future Chair 2). Etcetera and so on up to Future Chair 4. This will give the nominees a chance to prepare and, if the Chair for the week doesn’t turn up (quelle horreur!!) we will have a backup. Think about it and discuss.

Happenings at last week's Meeting

This week was a Club Night. These Nights generate a lot of discussion around the running of the Club. They are not as “entertaining” as having a Guest Speaker but are far more productive of ideas that the Club can use and incorporate. (Of course that’s just my opinion, but I do seem to have to write down a lot more. Ed.)

With Rick and Harry attending via Zoom, President Mick proposed the Toast and then welcomed our Guests. Next he spoke about an e-mail received from Peter Rawlings regarding the Southern Peninsular Community Support Centre and the possibility of creating Cluster projects to support them. Given our existing relationship it would be worthwhile for us to be involved. Mick also wished everyone well with the Market as he will be attending Agnes’ daughters wedding.

The Meeting was handed over to the Charles as this week’s Chair. (an appointment made on the fly. Refer to the NB. Ed) The apologies were read out and the Meeting was handed back to President Mick for the induction of Agnes Smith as a Member of the Rotary Club of Dromana.

The President called Agnes up to the lectern and officially welcomed her to the Club and presented her with her badge, certificate and Rotary information. He also announced that Agnes has already paid her dues. (hint, hint to all those hold outs. Ed.) There was a loud and enthusiastic welcome from the Members.

After this pleasant interlude, the Chair now called on Secretary Mark for his Report.

Marks Report prefaced his Report with “nothing much happening” and then proceeded with:
  • The Club received a thank you card from Carol Ross;
  • The Dromana Australia Day Committee sent thanks for our donation of $700+;
  • A Cashier has volunteered;
  • Dues can be paid directly intro the bank account;
  • E-mails with “information” on Regionalisation are pending;
  • An Assistant Secretary is still required; and
  • After attending the SPCSC there will be opportunities for the Club to make other visits in the future. Possible to other Rotary Clubs?
The Chair now called for the Directors Reports.

Rob stepped forward to report that he had created various teams to look into, and focus their efforts on; Membership, Halloween and International.

Charles is in the process of re-focussing his efforts.

Now was the time for Members Reports.

Chris reported:
  • Although he will not be at the Market, the Team is prepared and ready;
  • There is a Choir and Band ready for this Xmas in July Market;
  • A Santa is required (not a Satan) and discussions settled on a “volunteer”;
  • The Historical Society will have marque this Market; and
  • There will be chestnuts roasting. At which point there was a brief discussion on the technicalities around actually roasting said chestnuts.

Geoff now covered several topics:
  • The Clubs involvement in Australia Day was discussed and the3 need for volunteers to “man” our stand; (at this point there was a tangential comment from Rob about Club Runner on our phones, but Geoff stuck to his topics)
  • He confirmed that the Xmas Carols and December Market would be on separate dates this year; and
  • Both Applications for Events and Grants need to be applied for to the Council.
Lotto was run and won by Mick. (With Agnes doing the drawing of the number! Just saying. Ed.)

Fines were curtailed this week.

Mick finalised the Meeting with a joke (4 guys golfing) and thanks for all the feedback from Members.

The Meeting closed at 8:00.

Members should forward an apology if they are not attending a meeting.  Honorary members, Past members and Friends of Rotary who wish to attend any meeting are asked to notify the Treasurer of their wish before 12 noon on the day of the meeting.
