Happenings at last weeks’ meeting
This week’s meeting saw a number of those who had been nominated for various Meeting Responsibilities not being in attendance. This meant that the various roles had to be “dynamically” shared about during the meeting. Acting Sergeant Mick called the meeting to order and passed it over to Greg for the welcomes and toast.
The Acting Chair was Greg (you get the idea. Ed) who spoke about the latest small, portable accommodation units, a type of Granny Flat, that are being promoted by Simon Brookes. Although there are issues with them, there are sites available, tradespeople who are potentially available but the biggest hurdles are approvals from the Council.
Greg is also looking for any project which the Club could combine with the Habitat Restoration Fund and the resurrection of the Road Safety Project from some time back which provided information “packs” to L platers.
Next it was the turn of Mark for his Secretaries Report:
- Board Minutes have been uploaded to ClubRunner;
- Tyrrell has mentioned that he and Maggie will be endeavouring to attend the Changeover Dinner;
- Pete will be on leave of absence until December;
- Rotary International South Pacific and Philippines have secured RI funds for the Polio Plus project;
- Please reply to the Changeover Dinner Invitations as soon as possible; and
- All past winners of the President’s Award please let him know the year.
Rick announced that if he had not received a solution to the Bulleting distribution problem by 6th June has would be contacting the Ombudsman for resolution. He would then report back to the Club. He then demonstrated how to access the Bulletin from the Club Home Page.
Treasurer Bernard gave a run down on the Clubs latest finances:
- Market total profit of $1,439.65;
- Spinners:
- Dromana Hub $464.75
- McCrae $154.15
- Library $66.20
- Market $87.50
- Total $772.60
- Donations to Polio Plus = $3,620, Rotary Foundation $2,785 and Disaster Aid (Earthquake) $1,181.60 with thanks to Rick and Carol.
Harry now gave the Meeting a quick run through of the involvement of District 9820, and our Club in particular, with the Interplast organisation. He spoke glowingly of the great work that the Interplast teams do in developing countries to help people who may be condemned to a life on the margins to leave full lives free of prejudice because of their handicap.
Geoff informed the meeting that Murray had contracted Covid but didn’t seem too bad and was resting up.
Lotto was drawn and won by your Ed to his great surprise. (The shock obviously was felt by the rest of the meeting because they couldn’t bring themselves to have a Fines session. Ed).
Chris announced that Margret was expected to be discharged from the hospital in 2-3 days. He then told us of the hunt which was started by a remark from the Doctor that Margret’s pneumonia was being caused by an allergy to something or someone. Chris discounted anything being carried by himself because of his awareness of Margret’s condition. This led him to engage a Building Biologist to do testing both inside and outside their house.
After an extensive search for surface or airborne moulds, or other pathogens, the search eventually found a particular pneumonia causing mould had infected the house. In other words the house was poisoning Margret. Next, they had to find and eradicate the source.
Theirs is a stump house and it’s underfloor ventilation has been compromised over the years. Now they have to industrially clean the whole house and all clothing and correct the ventilation problem. This obviously means moving out and Elaine has generously offered them accommodation until it is safe to return to their home. Many thanks to Elaine.
In summary, Chris said that everyone in a “stump” house needs to get it checked for thorough underfloor ventilation and protection from mould.
On a different subject, Chris said that the Market had had a good result and talk of shutting over Winter has been postponed until next year. In the meantime, Mark, Tony and Chris are going to organise a survey of the Community on their use/knowledge of the Market at the end of next week. They will also organise the distribution of flyers.
During the July/August/September Markets there may be dollar incentives for the stall holders to attend. In addition, there is a list of local musicians in the Red Hill area who will be contacted to appear at the Market. The Peninsular Magazine will also be used for publicity each month.
Greg thanked all attendees and closed the meeting at 8:00.
Corrections
I’m not sure if this will become a regular occurrence, because I could end up with a section bigger than the actual Bulletin, but there were a number of basic factual errors last week so I thought I should do the right thing.
Firstly, I wrote that Harry was stepping back after 22 years whereas I should have written 32 years. Sorry Harry.
Secondly, I wrote that John’s parents had been teachers at the school in Boort whereas, in fact, they had been Students at the same school. Sorry John.
Let’s all hope I can stick to the facts in future.
