Happenings at last week’s Meeting
This week was our usual Committees Meeting and we were back at the Jetty Brewery. (The venue does have “issues” such as the acoustics, but alternatives are not easy to find. Ed.)
As per instructions, the Members ordered their meals on arrival and ate before the Meeting began. Charles called for any announcements and Chris informed the Members that Elaine had been in hospital from Sunday and was expected to come out Wednesday. The Meeting wished her well and asked for their thoughts to be passed on to her.
After further general discussion the Members broke up into their various Committees to discuss their areas of responsibility.
After 45 minutes of discussion, Charles called the Meeting to order and invited the Committee Chairs to report on their discussions.
Foundation/International
Mark reported that the Committee had discussed the donation of $1500 to the Polio+ Project. They had also discussed the potential benefits of becoming a DIK Member Club and will submit their thoughts to the Board for further discussion. It was announced that Janne Spears will be coming to the Club on 23rd April to talk about the successes and otherwise of other Rotary Clubs.
Publicity/Membership/
Sponsorship/Fundraising
Chris spoke about the previous Market being both successful and chaotic. To this end the Committee had discussed a change of the enforcement of Market Conditions and how the Market will be run in February. Hopefully these changes will help things to run more smoothly.
The new Club web-site is in the final design phase and will function more as an attraction to those outside of the Club as opposed to the inward looking one we have now.
The long-postponed Membership/Sponsorship drive will restart this March.
Youth/Community Service
Geoff made a brief announcement that the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) and MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) questions, that had been sent regarding the scheduling of these initiatives, were still waiting for a response.
Following on from further general discussions around the Committees findings Charles thanked all the Members for their attendance and closed the meeting at 8:00
A Reminder from Harry
Harry’s role in the Club is as our Almoner. He is the Clubs “social service” provider, and it is a position that requires that he is up to date on any “challenges” that have affected our Members.
Please keep him in the loop.
