Happenings at the last meeting
It was a pleasure to have the District Governor, Mark Humphries, address out meeting.
The District Governor said he would like to share a task with us and to be involved with an activity with us.
The District Governor inducted Bernard Dobson into our club; the Dromana Rotary Club. Bernard is a retired secondary principal. Mark indicated that he was becoming a member of a worldwide organisation with members who are leaders in their profession.
District Governor, Mark gave a presentation on the role of Rotary and the year in District 9820 He said that Rotary is represented by: Together we see the world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe in our communities and in ourselves
Where are we now? Some member are still feeling a little uncomfortable. Mark suggested that we invite them to join us, even using some sort of technology.
In 2023, we are going to have to Jennifer Jones come to Australia to attend the International Convention in Melbourne in 2023. Jennifer, a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, is to become Rotary International’s president for 2022-23, that will make her the first woman to hold that office in our 115-year history.
DG Mark asked: What is our project? He suggested that we use the Centenary Baton to promote our activities in the community and to boast about our achievements.
DG Mark indicated that Nigeria is now polio free and that Pakistan and Afghanistan are now the only two countries with polio. So, the job isn’t done. We need to complete the work to rid the globe of polio.
We have all been aware of the six areas of the foundation: Promoting peace, Fighting disease, Providing clean water, Literacy and basic education and Economic & community development. But there is now a seventh; Environment is now the 7
th. We need to think about what we can do for the environment in our community. See

Five districts are working together to mount a Conference which is unlikely to be face to face affair.
Linda Humphries is promoting a global RAM project, with support from Districts 9810 and 9820, to “End Malaria in Vanuatu For Good”. The Project is to control mosquitos populations. Our club is supporting the project with a donated $500.
Communicating and promoting our achievements is important. DG Mark indicated that we should check our Rotary signs and to use the correct Rotary logo. We should submit articles to the Governors newsletter “Knock-knock”. If there is a recording of a speaker send it along to the district YouTube Channel and use it to help promote the club and a project.
Finally, District Governor Mark, thanked the club for our efforts over time.
If Victorian continues to arrest the Corona Virus there is a great chance that we will be able to get together for some sort of Christmas Dinner or Lunch. I am looking forward to suggestions as to what we might do?
