Happenings at last weeks’ meeting
Harry opened the meeting by remarking on the good turnout for tonight even though we are so close to the Easter weekend. He then handed the meeting over to the Chair for the night, Mark Long.
Mark expounded the motto of “A Short Meeting is a Good Meeting” and proceeded to crack the whip while Merv rang the bell.
Secretary Chris ran through the apologies and then reported on:
- The Mornington Peninsular Regional Gallery is having a promotion to raise awareness of it’s varied offerings;
- CareFlights, which is about reuniting families with those undergoing medical treatment, is asking for donations;
- The Board has proposed purchasing a Sky Hydrant to donate to Australian Disaster Aid. This was put to the Meeting and accepted;
- As the Club has received up to $2,000 in donations to the Flood Relief, the Board has proposed that the Club top this up to $3,000. This was put to the Meeting and accepted;
- It may be possible to offer Rotary Health a further $1,000 for the Lift The Lid campaign.
Mark called on any Directors to report. Mike Smith announced that a new promotion for the Market on social media will be presented at the next Board Meeting for endorsement.
Next up was President Harry who spoke about:
- The official Changeover Dinner will be on Wednesday 29th June, at the Sailing Club. Further details closer to the date;
- Congratulations to Charles Ross on his first year in Rotary;
- There may be future Bunnings BBQs on the horizon;
- The Market will not be held on Election Day;
- There is a fund raiser luncheon for Rosebud/Rye at the Italian Club on the 29th May. Tickets are $40 and Harry will have some at the next Meeting. This is a worthwhile cause at a great venue;
- Staffing of the next Market is critical. This is our main money generator so we can’t afford for us to “drop the ball” when the regular, reliable workers are not available;
Now was the time for Lotto (won by Pete A and Ailsa) and Fines. This week Merv zeroed in on people with Birthdays or Anniversaries (once again catching your Ed – who hopes this is not starting to form a pattern!).
Having moved the meeting along at a steady pace, Mark now called on Michael Anderson to introduce the Club’s Strategic Plan and begin the discussion.
As Michael pointed out, this Plan has been in existence since 2021 and is a collection of his thoughts around various aspects of the Club. It is a first step in giving the Club some structure around:
- what we represent (Our Mission and Values);
- what we do (Our Core Business);
- where we want to be (Our Desired Future);
- our past, present and future ( Achievements & Successes, Disappointments & Concerns, Learnings & Reflections);
- who are we, as a Club (Strengths/Weaknesses/Opportunities/Threats Analysis);
- what are our objectives (Strategic Objectives);
- what is our overall plan and steps to get where we want to be (Community Services Business Plan Strategies & Actions);
- how will be go about funding our objectives (DRC Fundraising Plan Strategies and Actions)
In setting out the number of decisions that have to be made and the amount of work that will be needed it was pointed out that this is a multi-year effort that will be passed from one Board to the next. It was also recognised that decisions may be taken by the Board but it will be up to the Members to cooperate and aid in the implementation of the Plan.
This is not the end of the Plan but the next step in the beginning.
All attendees thanked Michael for all his work and effort in producing and presenting the Plan.
Prior to closing the meeting it was pointed out that the Club will be joining with the Dromana RSL for the laying of the wreath at the Anzac Day service.
The meeting was finished at 8:00.
A Plea from Rick/A Volunteer Wanted.
“For some years or so (20 plus), I have been lumbered with the task of collating and printing the Annual Report for the Club.
Now of course we have no need to print it. We distribute it as a PDF and email it to members, and file in on ClubRunner for all to see.
I think it is about time someone else took over.
I wonder who that should be!
I have the front cover design for anyone one that is prepared to take it on.”
