President's Message
member photo
Greetings to Everyone,

Last Wednesday our guest speakers were from the Frankston Rotoract Club. We had, Lilly Sednik (President) Charlotte Bedey (President Elect) and Quinney Brownfield Hanna (Secretary).

All were very impressive and inspirational. I will be keeping in touch with them. Our club needs more influence by our Youth.

We also had Pauline Porcaro visiting once again. I’m certain our members will accept Pauline as our new member.

This Wednesday is our social evening. We will be visiting the Jetty Road Brewery for a good meal and refreshments.

I hope to see as many members as possible.

Happenings at last week’s Meeting

This week Acting-Sergeant Greg called the Meeting to or and President Charles began by proposing the Toast and calling for the Invocation. Next, he welcomed Pauline Porcaro back and welcomed our Guest Speakers from Frankston Rotoract; President Lilly Setnik, President Elect Charlotte Redy and Secretary Quinny Brownfield Hanna.

Charles now handed the Meeting over to the Chair Anne Buchanan who read out the apologies and then called for our Guest Speakers.

President Lilly gave us a brief outline of her history with Rotary and her attendance at the 2023 Rosebud Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) where she became interested in a previous Rotoract Club in the Peninsular area and what was needed to resurrect it. What was required was 10 members, a committee and a budget. On the 27th of April 2024 the club was re-launched and now has 13 members and a satellite club on the Bass Coast.

President Elect Charlotte now told the Meeting of the projects that the Club has undertaken and some of the initiative they are associated with. Having undertaken fund raising events, like a Bunnings BBQ, they have donated to:
  • Toys for kids;
  • Habitat Restoration work; and
  • Toothpaste and Toothbrushes for the needy.
The Club is undertaking a trip to Nepal on the 20th December for 4 months. They will be working with the Fred Hollows Foundation and assisting with sustainable food production and helping to create an mural and a local school.

On October 19th they will be having a Trivia Night to raise funds and are aiming at creating a collective group of local Clubs.

Secretary Quinny now took over and spoke about past collaborations that the Club has been involved with, such as a Plastic Duck Race in Frankston which raised $18k and a Run for the Community. The Run involved multiple Rotoract Clubs and was organised by a local Interact Club. It involved 5 hours of running on a treadmill.

Quinny summed up by talking about the value of collaboration and the added impact it gives to both Fundraising events and Service projects.

After taking a series of questions from the Meeting, Anne thanked our Guests and presented them with a token of our appreciation. (An archaic item for each of them, called a pen. Ed)

After dinner the Chair called for updates from Directors.

Chris spoke about the Market and how it will require extra volunteers because we are testing out a new setup and deploying extra advertising.

Tony spoke about preparations for Halloween and that the applications and permits had been submitted to Council. Additionally, an application to the Bendigo Bank is being submitted so we can deploy additional banners, marquees and/or umbrellas as next year’s event.

Greg announced a Trivia Night for the Scouts to be held on 12th October. Announcement have been placed on the Town Cryer site. Regarding the Tiny Houses Project, a location has been decided and now the project group is working through issues related to the model.

Harry noted that, while the DIK visit is not going ahead, Donations In Kind will provide a Guest Speaker in the future.

Charles presented the Presidents Report and spoke about the Frankston/Mornington Peninsular Group discussions which relate to Clubs in the area and their targets such as:
  • Homelessness;
  • Mental Health;
  • The Environment;
  • Interplas; and
  • Musical Enrichments.
Marion quickly mentioned the Peninsular Open Gardens Scheme on the 17th November and the need for volunteers.

The Chair now called for the Lotto to be drawn, and it was won by Bob.

Tony reminded the Meeting of the AusChild foster care project and the need for signs to be deployed to our spinners.

A brief Fines session was held which raised some “donations” and then the Meeting was handed back to Charles.

Charles thanked our Guests for their attendance and closed the Meeting at 8:00.

View from the Gold Chair

Harry finally got into the Gold Chair, so he can stop harassing Pete.

Don’t Forget the Movie Night

For those who might be interested in a quick meal before the movie, a group booking will be made at a nearby cafe/pub/restaurant.   If you wish to be included, please let Mark know when you respond.
