Happenings at last week’s Meeting
This was Committee’s Meeting week, and we were at the Jetty Brewery again. (Attendance was slim and we didn’t manage to make up a quorum. Ed).
Charles began the Meeting and, as the only functioning Committee/Sub-Committee in attendance, called on Joseph to begin discussion with the Halloween Night Sub-Committee.
Joseph announced that, because there are only six months to go to Halloween, planning and preparation must begin straight away in areas such as:
- Obtaining a new map of the Area, since changes have been made to the facilities;
- Change the method of food delivery into a cafeteria-type arrangement similar to what happens at the football. i.e. select your food and pay as you exit;
- The obtaining of Permits and Licences;
- Arranging Security and finding out the CFA participation;
- The pricing of rides may change plus selling them as a package with a stamp. Also may include the petting zoo;
- Organising Cleanup Brigade volunteers;
- Establishing a Rotary stand;
- Organising volunteers for various ad-hoc tasks during the night;
- Possible change of location for the water fountain and obtaining one from Shire or Vic. Water;
- Planning and executing advertising.
On completion of this discussion, Charles now brought up the subject of how to make the Committee Meeting work better.
The discussion covered such ideas as:
- Restructuring the Meetings so that only one or two Committees were the subject of the Meeting so that the subject Committees can get input from the wider Club;
- Frequency was covered but it was decided that once a month was about right;
- Each Committee must have an agenda for their meeting.
It was decided that these points should be presented to the wider Membership for discussion at the next Dinner Meeting. Charles volunteered to research the option/cost of a new venue, on the understanding that a change to the Golf Club would necessitate a change of Meeting night.
It was also discussed that, given the success of last weeks Guest Speaker, the time given for speakers should be extended to cover the subject. It was also pointed out that five minutes for the Behind The Badge did not allow for a decent explanation of someone’s life.
These subjects were also to be tabled for discussion at the next Meeting.
After this, Charles thanked those who attended and declared the Meeting closed at 7:45.
