President's Message

Hello Everyone,

Last Wednesday, our meeting at the SBS club was well attended our members. We did not have a speaker for the evening but it was a good meeting.

Mark gave us the sad news that an ex-member of our Club, Colin Byatt, passed away the previous Friday night. Although I did not know Colin well, I found him to be a very good man. May he rest in Peace.

Our market day had a wet start but once the clouds passed, it turned out a very mild day with lots of visitors.

Next Wednesday will be our social night, to be held at the restaurant OHYA, next door to Baro in Jetty Rd Rosebud. I hope to see you all there.

Happenings at last week’s Meeting

The Sailing Club Dinner Meeting was well attended this week, as it also incorporated the Club Annual General Meeting. Charles started the proceedings with the regular Toast and Invocation and then handed over to Wayne to chair the AGM.

(The AGM has its own detailed minutes which will be published at the next AGM for acceptance. Therefore, there will be few details in this Bulletin. Ed.)

Wayne introduced the AGM as a “constitutional obligation” and it stayed close to the Agenda and ran smoothly with moving and seconds occurring swiftly.

Next year’s President, Peter Collins, introduced his “team”:
  • Secretary Wayne
  • Treasurer Merv and
  • Directors Tony, Greg, Chris and Pauline.
The AGM closed at 6:45 and we reverted to our regular Meeting with Peter as Chair.

Mark was called upon to give a report on the Carols By Candlelight arrangements.

Mark reported that the organised publicity for the Carols would commence 10 days before the event. However, soft copies of the poster will be sent out to Members quickly for ad hoc distribution. Large posters were distributed around the tables. Large signs will be set up 7 days prior to the event. Volunteers were called for. The setup will begin at 2:00 pm with chairs being supplied. Lollies for children are being provided and a Santa nominated. (Permanent Job! Ed.)

Mark then went on with the sad announcement of the passing of Col Byatt.

The Chair now called for the Presidents Report.

Charles’ Report was brief, and he said it would be his New Years mission to find an alternate venue.

Now was time for the Secretary’s Report.

Wayne welcomed back Pauline and then announced anniversaries. He also announced that the Club Calendar has been updated:
  • Dec 10th – Board Meeting before Club Meeting;
  • Dec 17th – Dromana Hotel last night, with big prizes (His words. Ed.);
  • Dec 27th – Market Day;
  • Jan 7th – Social Event;
  • Jan 11th – Two Bays Run BBQ;
  • Jan 14th – First Meeting;
  • Jan 21st – Forum-type Meeting;
  • Jan 25th – Australia Day at Dromana Park;
  • Jan 28th – Club Meeting; and
  • Jan 31st – Market.
After this calm and sober report, your Ed went on a brief rant about the need to clean up all the Club and Market information on the Internet as there is a lot which is out of date or just plain wrong. If the Club can’t undertake this then the Board should look at employing someone.

Lotto was drawn, and won by Pauline, and Seargent Greg handed out multiple fines.

The Chair handed back to Charles who thanked everyone for attending and closed the Meeting at 7:55.

Vale – Colin (Col) Byatt

Colin (Col) Byatt was a well-liked, highly regarded, and valued member of Dromana Rotary for many years. We wish to advise all and any members who wish to attend that a Memorial Service is to be held on Friday 5th December, commencing 12 noon at the Leongatha Football Club.

November Market

What started as a terrible morning turned into a pleasant morning with many contented stallholders and quite a good public attendance.

You will receive an email each week requesting that you confirm your attendance at the next meeting by return email of by phone call or text.
