Guest Speaker
Our Guest Speaker Sohila spoke on the life experiences of her grand-mother, her mother and herself three generations of Persian women. Sohila spoke about the 7000 years of Persian history and culture. These experiences are the subject of her book “Scattered Pearls” a thirty year project in which Sohila speaks of her up-bringing and her unhappy seven years of marriage.
The title of the books comes from an incident when her husband tore a string of pearls from around her throat during a session of family violence. The content of the book concerns the loneliness, fear, of tomorrow and fear of life is going. Fear gets one down, limits expectations. When one overcomes fear, one can develop and one has suddenly can experience great expectations. The time frame of the book covers thirth-five years of Sohila’s journey from the city of Melbourne through many suburbs to Mount Eliza.
Family is a strong theme throughout the story. Sohila spoke highly of her partner of 14 years, James. Sohila spoke of her expectations and hopes for her new career in Legal Aid, and her new position in the Magistrate’s Court at Dromana.
Sohila’s positive outlook is an outstanding example of an outcome over family violence. We wish her well in her future.
