President's Message

Hello to All Members,

It was my honour this AZAC Day Memorial, to represent our Club at the Peninsula Club in Dromana. It was the first time I attended an ANZAC Day Memorial. I was surprised at the large number of people, including children and young teenagers, who took the time to attend such a solemn event. I found it very moving. We had breakfast and later we assembled in O'Donohue St to march to the Dromana Cenotaph where the Wreath Laying ceremony took place.

This Wednesday happens to be the fifth of the month, so we have a bye.

The following Wednesday will be our Social Night, the venue will be announced in due course.

Happenings at last week’s Meeting

Back at the Sailing Club and, after Charles had proposed the Toast and called for the Invocation, Chris took the helm as Chair. After reading out the apologies he then called for the Presidents Report.

Charles spoke about the move of our Meetings to the Shire Hall. There are still issues around storage and regular availability, so the Club will be using it only for Committee Meetings for the near future. Charles also confirmed some of the decisions taken at the previous Committee Meeting. In future, only one Committee will be discussed at each Meeting, so that all Members can contribute to that Committees’ workings. Also, Committees will now be made up of only the Director and an Assistant. This will allow Committees to select Members who are most suited to a particular project, not just the allocated Members. Charles now conducted a general discussion around what were the storage needs that had to be satisfied in the Hall.

There was no Secretary’s Report, owing to the missing Secretary.

In the Treasurer’s Report, Merv reported that he was reviewing future Sub’s.

The Chair now called for Directors Reports.

Mark announced that the latest Rotary Youth Leadership Program (RYLA), for 18 – 30-year-olds, is scheduled for 6 – 11 July at Philip Island while the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN), for 14 – 17-year-olds, is being held at the Briers on the 18 – 20th September. Mark, and other Members, called both programs very worthwhile.

Chris introduced the next Market which our first afternoon Market so as not to clash with the Anzac Day services. (See Below)

Lotto was drawn and won by Merv.

Peter Collins now got up to speak about attending the New Presidents Forum. He said it was invaluable and impressed upon him the need to be open to asking questions and being ready to adapt to the new. He also felt that it emphasised the need to be enthusiastic.

Having finished his positive report, Peter now wielded the Fines session.

Charles finished the Meeting by noting that next week is the fifth Wednesday of the month and therefore a “bye”. The Social Night venue for next month will be announced closer to the time. The Meeting closed at 7:50.

April Market

Quite a successful Market this month. Especially considering it was our first afternoon (1:00 to 5:00) one.
