Happenings at last week’s Meeting
This week we were back at the Sailing Club (with the Men’s Shed Xmas breakup next door making a racket. Ed.) with our Chair for the Meeting being Bob Donaldson.
Bob introduced our Guest Speaker, Emily Parker, with a brief acknowledgement of the appropriateness of her subject - the National Centre for Healthy Ageing (NCHA).
Emily explained that the Centre was a partnership between Monash University and Peninsular Health. The aim of the NCHA is to create better integrated care models to promote health and wellbeing across people's lifespan and drive improvements in the way people seek out and access care, to ensure they reflect and align with their values and needs. The Peninsular is uniquely placed to support this aim because Peninsular Health collects all the data on public health use in the area.
This mass of data is collected and matched to an individual’s progress through the health system and is then de-personalised so that it becomes just anonymous data for research. All research projects have to be approved by a committee which reviews the effectiveness of, and the ethics involved, in each project proposal.
From the NCHA web site, the purpose is:
“To lead the way in developing innovative, effective, sustainable and holistic models of care in partnership with the world’s best researchers, care organisations, industry experts and the community. Through data collection and analysis, real-world and real-people testing, and future-focused simulated environments, we empower collaborative action that delivers significant, evidence-based, lasting outcomes, to help ageing people in Australia and around the world live healthy and productive lives.” (Yes, I got lazy and looked it up. Ed)
After a Q&A session, which showed the Meeting’s interest in the subject, Bob thanked Emily for taking the time to talk to the Club.
Bob now called for the President’s Report.
Mick started his report with the melancholy subject of the farewell to Bernard. Mick pointed out that in the few years that Bernard had been with the Club he has been a willing participant in our Meetings and Projects and would be sorely missed. Bernard thanked Mick and the Club and received sincere round of applause from the Meeting.
Next, Mick moved on to mention:
- Our last Meeting for the calendar year is on the 20th and partners are invited;
- Congratulation to Bob and Freda on their anniversary;
- The visit to Rosebud/Rye Rotary Club was a great success and we will hope to duplicate this success with other Clubs;
- The next Market is on the 30th December, for a change; and
- He has obtained a copy of the induction ceremony we saw at Rosebud/Rye for future use.
Bob now called for the Secretary’s Report.
Mark announced that:
- Last month’s Board minutes are up on ClubRunner;
- Our traditional startup breakfast will be on the 10th January;
- Those Members who opted to pay their dues in instalments, they are now due;
- From now on the administration of each Meeting will be conducted by Tony. i.e. let him know if you are attending, not the Treasurer; and
- Rob will undertake the future collections from the Spinners.
Treasurer distributed the latest P&L and Balance Sheet.
Bob now called for Directors Reports.
Harry spoke briefly about the type of goods that can be donated to Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment (RARE) such as hospital and/or school equipment and play equipment. He also suggested that he will look into getting a Guest Speaker from Rotary Against Malaria (RAM) to come to a Club Meeting in the new year.
Greg announced that the Picnic Table Project is finally ready to go, as far as the Shire is concerned. He also called for volunteers for the Christmas Carols. This will involve the setup and BBQ and times will be announced.
Charles reminded the Meeting of the need for volunteers for our Australia Day stand. The times are 8:00 until 14:00 and a roster will be produced. In addition, Charles pointed out that, in his upcoming year as President, the Club will need a commitment from all Members to make things work well and easily.
Tony announced that the Club will be obtaining a plaque for the picnic table.
As the night was getting on, Bob called for the Lotto to be drawn and it was won by Adrian. He then handed the Meeting back to the President.
President Mick reminded us all to correspond with Tony regarding meals from now on.
The Meeting was officially closed at 8:00.
