President's Message
member photo
Hi everyone, I hope you all have had a good week.

Being accident free, we hope, we think of two of our members who are not so lucky. Ray is still in care (130 Golf Link Drive) and Ailsa Hemphill will be on the mobile, so give them a call to cheer them up. Hope you both fully recover soon, the club is missing you.

We had a long-standing member, Geoff Taylor, as man behind the badge. It was a very interesting talk and I could relate to that, being in my trade, when he started many years ago. Well done Geoff, hard work stands for a good reward.

Bad luck we had to cancel the Market this week, due to Covid 19. The sleep-in was nice but does not bring in the dollars. Can't help bad luck.

Not sure yet if we are back face-to-face this week, wait and see.

Don't forget to try and encourage someone to join Rotary. Bring a friend, that's a good start.

Take care, be good to one another.

Yours in Rotary,

Harry Ziegerink

Happenings at the last meeting

Unfortunately this weeks meeting was via Zoom so the attendance was limited. This meant that the absentees missed out on an interesting talk by P.E. Geoff Taylor.

Person Behind the Badge

Geoffs talk was wide ranging, he started with his professional life with his own company in the building industry, of which he is rightly proud. He spoke of meeting his wife in the 70’s at the Matthew Flinders club and how they have been married for 51 years with four children, all successes in their own right. Also, he and Elaine have travelled around Australia and overseas and they look forward to being able to continue in the future. Geoff briefly touched on the number of “boys trips” that he has been on.

Geoff then spoke of moving from Bayswater to the Peninsular and a half finished house, with 3 children and a fourth on the way. He was introduced to Rotary in 1983 and he spoke of the wonderful camaraderie and satisfaction achieved on overseas trips to places such as the Solomon Islands and New Guinea.

Geoff sees his life as full and lucky.

The audience then reminisced on Bayswater in the 70’s and 80’s and gave testimonials to the quality of his building skills.

The meeting progressed

John Barnes gave an update of Ailsa, she has fallen and re-broken her arm. She seems to be doing well but will be unable to attend our meetings for a while. The meeting sent their regards and Harry will send a condolence card.

Treasurer Rick announced the dispatch of the invoices for the annual dues, which have not increased this year.

It was decided to distribute the club strategic plan to the members so it can be perused and discussed. This is part of the move to include club members in more of the Board deliberations.

Our next meeting is face-to-face, the menu will be as follows:
  • Chicken Schnitzel, Broccolini, Chips and Gravy
  • Flathead Tails, Lemon, Chips and Leaves
  • Dessert will be Chocolate Cake with Cream and Berries
(Editors Note: Apologies for the late distribution of the Bulletin, due to my technical difficulties.)
