Happenings at last week’s Meeting
The Chair for this week’s meeting was occupied by Lyn. The Meeting welcomed guests Darren Zmegac and Cherie Coburn and, after the Invocation, President Mick ran through a few things:
- There will be an Extraordinary General Meeting on the 21st February to vote on the possible changes to our Meeting frequency and format. An E-mail reminder will be sent to all Members;
- Information from the Caterer is that the cost of meals will increase to $37 for those weeks when we are the only organisation at the Sailing Club;
- There will be no smorgasbord option; and
- Options of other venues are still be investigated.
The Chair now called on Secretary/Treasurer Mark for his reports.
Mark informed the Meeting:
- The Club made a profit of $433.54 from the Two Bays Run with the organisers putting in $200;
- The Bunnings BBQ preliminary figures are $1105 received on credit cards;
- The Market currently has 44 sites with more coming;
- Rotary International has sent a number of e-mails:
- Lunch with the President at Cape Schank;
- The RYLA Awards are on the 13th July;
- “March in March for Malaria”.
- The Club has forwarded $2250 to Rotary International;
- The Club Banner has been, currently, mislaid. Any Member who knows where it is please let Mark know;
- The non-financial Members have been reminded; and
- The current issues we have with Zoom membership means that Board meetings will have to be in person until things are sorted out.
There were no Directors Reports, so the Chair opened the Meeting up to General Business.
(Boom Boom)
Rob contributed that the Bunnings BBQ had been excellent, and Chris called for a vote of thanks to Merv for his continued hard work whenever the Club has a function, especially BBQs.
Greg announced that the “vegetarian offering” at the Two Bays Run was not particularly successful. We may have misread the audience.
Bob pointed to enhanced Rotary Health initiatives in response to recent world-wide Polio outbreaks.
Adrian announced that new RAM (Rotary Against Malaria) efforts are coming up so be prepared.
Greg felt the Club should, once again, be thinking about the best places to be spending the money we raise.
Tony said that the plaques for the foreshore tables is being sourced and Darren offered to install them when they arrive.
Greg announced that Hillview will be needing some work during February and March, initially Wednesday 7th Feb through to the 17th. He will be providing photos of the areas to be covered.
Chris informed the Meeting that the March Market will be held on Easter Saturday.
Darren has volunteered to take on any maintenance work (Market, foreshore, Hillview) that the Club requires. Gratefully accepted by the Club.
The Lotto was drawn and won by Bob. The Fines Session was superseded by a Dob In session.
Finally, Chris remarked that he has begun creating a procedure for the Market. (a template is in the works. Ed)
Mick thanked everyone for their contributions and the Meeting closed at 7:45.
Thanks to Maw Civil and Dromana Concrete
The Club would like to thank Maw Civil and Dromana Concrete for providing the labour and materials free of charge for our Safety Beach all-access picnic table. It is very pleasing to have local companies that are so community supportive.
Greg added “I captured these wheeled access men enjoying a coffee at our new table. They were stocking up on caffeine for their next leg down to Sorrento.”
Special General Meeting
Notice is given of a Special General Meeting to be held at the Safety Beach Sailing Club on Wednesday 21 February at 6.30pm.
The meeting is restricted to dealing with one item only & that is item 11 (b) of the Annual General Meeting of 22 November 2023 (attached). This motion, that was successfully carried was:
‘that this meeting directs the Club Board to keep the current weekly meeting format but gives the Club Board the flexibility to make alternate meetings a shorter format if required’.
It is expected that a motion will be moved as follows.
‘that this meeting directs the Club Board to keep the current weekly meeting format’.
If so moved debate will follow & amendments are permitted.
Following resolution of this issue the Special General Meeting will be closed & the meeting will revert to a normal dinner meeting format.
Australia Day Thank You
“We wish to thank you all for the great effort that you all made, to make the Rotary Painting of Wooden Cutouts, a great success on AustraliaDay.
There were only 100 mixed cutouts left at the end & we commenced with over 800 pieces.
This means that your efforts made 700 children happy, painting the cutout of their choice.
The weather was kind to us, with minimal early rain & your teamwork, filling the various tasks during the morning, was exemplary.
A special thank you to Geoff, for assisting us with the set up on Thursday & the clean to storage at the end.
Thanking you all again – your support is very much appreciated & you contributed to a fun time being had by everyone.
Regards Charles & Bob”
