Happenings at last week’s Meeting
The Meeting had a number of stand-ins, Greg acting for Charles, Peter C acting for Pete and Geoff as emergency Chair.
After the usual preliminaries, Toast and Invocation, Geoff read out the apologies and then recognised Rob.
Rob then spoke about the spinners. He spoke about their history and positioning and about their successes and usefulness when publicising the Club and its projects. He spoke about what could be the scope of the Spinners Project and asked for Members to participate. It was decided that a Spinners Committee be formed with Rob and Greg in charge. This Committee will act as a standard Club committee and receive suggestions from the Members. It will also report its steps and progress to the Club and Board.
The Chair now called for the Secretary’s Report.
Wayne began by welcoming everyone back from the break and congratulating John and Bob who had birthdays while we were getting through the Xmas times. He also congratulated Charles and Rob for their respective wedding anniversaries. (This being the reason for Charles’ absence.) Wayne then contributed to the spinners discussion with a suggestion for replacing the one at the Markets. He then reminded the Meeting that the next Market is on Saturday 31st. He also took a rollcall of volunteers for the Australia Day stall and pointed out the change of venue for this year.
Finally, Wayne read out a thankyou note from one of the recipients of our bursaries at Dromana Secondary College. (See below. Ed)
The Chair now called for Directors Reports.
Harry reported that all the tools that we had collected for DIK have been shipped to East Timor, including stock from a Mitre10 which was closing. This has been a very successful undertaking and he, or Peter, will look for some photos as a record.
The Treasurer gave a brief report on the success of our BBQ at the 2 Bays Run. Our profit was over $1600.
Lotto was drawn and won by Anne. Fines were levied.
Geoff now gave a talk on his recent trip “up north”. He learnt quite a bit about Cyclones as they got ready for its arrival. They can sweep through an area or just sit with their edges catching the coast. This time they missed the peak and he felt that it didn’t cause anywhere near as much damage as our local weather has. Cyclones are not all they’re cracked up to be. A bit of a non-event, though the rainfall was impressive. The Queensland humidity is what’s crushing.
Greg thanked all the attendees, and the Meeting was closed at 7:55.
