Happenings at last week’s Meeting
Back at the Sailing Club and Charles started the proceedings with a welcome to our Guest Speaker Catherine Ashton. He then handed over to Bob, as the Chair, who read out the apologies, welcome Marks return and gave a brief introduction to Catherine. He then handed the Meeting over to Catherine.
Catherine began by talking about a life changing accident she had when travelling on the Monash Freeway. While recovering in hospital she realised that she wanted to do something more in her life and the sad death of a friend led her to the realisation of just how much there was to do when you lost a family member or close friend.
With the tasks she had to undertake for her friend’s estate as a template, she began to develop an application, called critical info, which provides an holistic approach to end-of-life care. The application provides guidance and links to information on how to negotiate end-of-life planning.
There are five main initial tasks to complete:
- Check your status on organ donations;
- Check that your Beneficiaries and Documents are up to date;
- Check your key contacts in case of emergencies;
- Develop a Pet care plan if necessary; and
- Have a conversation with your loved ones about your thoughts and wishes.
The application has 15 different focus areas which are, ideally, done over 15 days. It runs you through the process and supports users' decision making across personnel, financial, legal, medical and emotional areas.
After her thought-provoking talk, Catherine answered some questions and then Bob thanked her for taking the time to join us and presented her with a memento.
The Chair now called for the Presidents Report.
Charles briefly spoke about the delivery to DIK and then commended the Scarecrow competition which is being run by the Community Garden to the creative Members.
There was no Secretary’s Report as Wayne was recovering from going “under the knife”. All the best Wayne.
Directors Reports were called for.
Mark touched on Youth:
- A student has approached the club for sponsorship of $220 for the RMIT Science Experience. Members agreed;
- Likewise, the National Youth Science Forum is approaching, and it was suggested that we could partner with the Mt. Eliza Club to provide $750 each. This was also agreed by the Members; and
- Sponsorship for Dromana College is being investigated and a liaison with the college established.
Next, about Community:
- A new form has been created by the Shire for grants which effects the Carols By Candlelight;
- Other suppliers have been notified of this change;
- The Halloween and Market are handled by other shire groups; and
- Southern Peninsular Community Service donations are required. The Board to discuss.
Peter spoke on the delivery of the tools to DIK. The facility has a magnificent range of goods but our Club obtaining Membership at DIK may not be viable. The Board to discuss.
Tony announced that the Halloween grants and permits are underway.
Joseph updated the Members on the progress of the Halloween Bonfire:
- Purchase of new payment machines will be helping food delivery;
- There will be a stamp for all rides;
- There will be an animal farm, rides, music and ice cream;
- Security is being arranged;
- South East Water will be supplying a water trailer; and
- It may be that we provide prizes for Best Dressed.
Chris noted that the Information Centre development is still under investigation.
Greg mentioned that the “mess” from the previous Halloween bonfires has been cleaned up. Also, the Tiny House is progressing and is nearly ready.
It was reported that Wayne is uncomfortable but progressing. The Members wished hm well.
Lotto was drawn and won by Greg who then conducted the Fines session with fines also coming from the floor.
Bob handed the Meeting back to Charles who thanked everyone and closed the meeting at 8:10.
