Hello Fellow Rotarians,

Last week our guest speaker was Sylvana Contu, she is the Client Services Manager for Peninsula Home Caring. Her topic brought to light the different needs we require as we age.

This Wednesday, our meeting of committees will be held at the Two Buoys Restaurant on a trial basis only. I would like your feedback, please make an effort to attend.

Happenings at last week’s Meeting

We were back at the Sailing Club for this Meeting. As well as a Guest Speaker we were also inducting a new Member. The Speaker was Silvana Contu who is the Cultural and Relationships Manager at Home Caring Mornington Peninsular. The new member was Peter Greenaway who has been a visitor for a number of weeks.

Greg was, once again, acting as Sergeant and called on Charles to open the Meeting. Charles gave a brief introduction to Silvana and outlined the later proceedings. He then proposed the Toast and called for the Invocation. This week’s Chair was Rob who read out the apologies and then called on the Guest Speaker.

Silvana thanked Wayne and the Club for the invitation to speak. She introduced herself as a Mt. Martha resident of 15 years who had had a business as a Stylist but wanted to give something back to the community so joined Home Caring which has as its aim, a personalised service to allow people to remain in there homes instead of having to move from an environment that they are comfortable in.

Home Caring values are:
  • Respect;
  • Empathy;
  • Integrity;
  • Excellence; and
  • Collaboration.
Their services to support independent living and quality of life include:
  • Personal Care;
  • Domestic Assistance;
  • Nursing Care;
  • Social Support;
  • Respite Care; and
  • Specialist Care.
She pointed out that all in-home support services free with an Aged Care Package for those over 65.

Additionally, she pointed out the crossover between the NDIS and the Support at Home program which commences on 1st July 2025. Home Caring are there to help people navigate the “system”, for free, and their Care managers are the single point of contact.

After a brief Q and A session Rob thanked Silvana for taking the time to talk to the Club about important issues.

Charles now gave the Presidents Report:
  • The Club now has two Zeller machines to smooth money collections;
  • We will be trying out a new venue for our Committees Meetings. Feedback from attendees will be welcomed; and
  • The Tiny Houses Project is up and running and the Club will receive progress reports.
Wayne now gave the Secretary’s Report:
  • An explanatory document has been handed out to facilitate discussion regarding the Committee Meetings;
  • As the Changeover Night is on the 2rd June, all Directors are required to provide their reports a.s.a.p.; and
  • The Committee Meeting at Two Bouys is a trial.
Tony gave a brief Treasurers Report noting that the Books are balancing. He also officially welcomed Murray back.

Chris announced that the new external web site is imminent. It will be published next month, and the publicising will be very important to its success. An advertising program will be incorporated.

Geoff gave an update on the MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) with Balcombe College being interested in providing two teams in August. No response has been had from Dromana Secondary College.

Marion briefed the Meeting on the Community Garden:
  • For 14 years it has been an open garden;
  • It had failed due to lack of volunteers;
  • A new Committee was formed 3 years ago and the new garden still needs more volunteers; and
  • Due to the increase in vandalism, the Garden will now become a Gated garden.

Lotto was drawn and Wayne won. A quick Fines session ensued with Charles getting fined for “getting off the track”.

Rob thanked everyone for attending and the Meeting ended around 8:10.

You will receive an email each week requesting that you confirm your attendance at the next meeting by return email of by phone call or text.
