Happenings at last weeks’ meeting
Greg was not well this week so Mark took on the role of Temporary President. We had a number of missing hierarchy members so the usual roles were spread over limited individuals.
Charles was the Chair this week and called for the Secretary’s and Directors reports.
Secretary Mark stepped up and his first subject was the District Conference next month. Currently we have very few members that intend going Mark asked the meeting what they thought was the worth of the Conferences. Responses from the members endorsed the value of the Conferences and centred around:
- The number of thought provoking speakers (usually 50% are interesting);
- The chance to network;
- Spreading information across Clubs; and
- The opportunity to learn.
Director Harry announced that a RAWCS meeting was scheduled for the 25th February to provide information on future projects.
Director Lyn read out a thankyou letter from one of the Rotary Dromana Award winners. It was suggested that future winners could be invited to attend one of our meetings. Lyn mentioned that the Secondary College was sending an excursion to Cambodia and the Club may wish to assist in some way. Lastly, she displayed a collection of banner that she had from her time as President. She is donating it to the Club for our archives.
Rob suggested the Club expedite the use of Zoom for all Club, Board and Committee meetings. It was recommended that Charles could supply technical support (though I’m not too sure how enthusiastic he was at this proposal. Ed.)
After dinner Chris thanked all those, including the Buchanan family, who made the Market/Bunnings BBQ date clash work successfully. He also drew the meetings attention to the new sign that has been erected in Pier Street, near the Salvo’s store, celebrating the Rotary 50 years in Dromana and the 100 years in Australia. It will be there for a number of months and, hopefully, will generate some community interest in the Club.
Bob spoke on the preparations for the Australia Day festivities on the Dromana foreshore. He also pointed out that the Australia Day Committee were recognising Ray and Elaine Barnard-Browns contributions to the community by awarding six Ray Barnard-Brown Youth Awards from recipients from three local schools.
Now it was time for Lotto, which was won by Tyrrell, and Fines. The Acting Sergeant seemed to have a touch of desperation when issuing fines and even sought to critique some of the members sartorial decisions.
Now the meeting was handed back to Secretary Mark to revisit the discussion on New Member initiatives. He began by going back over the points raised in the last meeting and then invited members to submit any new thoughts. This week the meeting was a bit more controlled than last week (yes, your Ed kept as quiet as possible) and resulted in some additions to Marks list, which is reproduced below.
A relatively subdued meeting finished around 8:00.
Don’t forget.
Keep collecting and get them to Elaine or Rod in the new year.
