Happenings at last week’s Meeting
Wayne started this week’s meeting as Seargent and called the Members to order. He introduced President Charles who proposed the Toast and then welcomed our Guests, David and Stephen Thomas-Greenall. Charles then handed the Meeting back to Wayne who was now the Chair for the evening.
After reading out this week’s apologies, Wayne gave a brief introduction to our Guest Speaker, David Thomas-Greenall. David had contacted Wayne to arrange a “make-up” Meeting attendance. Wayne extended him an invitation on the proviso that he also came as our Guest Speaker. David is a retired Accountant and also an AOM. He has been involved in several international Rotary projects and is happy to pass on his expertise to any who ask.
David now came to the lectern and told us of working in India, New Zealand and, most especially, in Tonga. He asked if any of the Members had been to Tonga and exchanged some reminiscences with Harry.
The latest project that David had been involved with in Tonga involved sourcing and transporting books and shelving for a school library which had been devastated by a recent tsunami. The kindness and gratitude of the local people made all the efforts worthwhile.
Future Tongan projects are going to involve the provision of books and tools for a local college, which was thought to dovetail nicely with our Clubs efforts in collecting electrical tools for DIK (Donations In Kind).
Wayne thanked David for giving us an insight into, not only his efforts, but the good work that Rotary does in international efforts. He pointed out that hearing from people like David helps to further the promotion of these efforts.
Charles was now called upon for the Presidents Report.
Charles quickly pointed out that Carol is feeling better and undergoing further tests. Also, Bob was not with us because he was undergoing a hernia operation, and we all wished him well.
Charles announced that Harry is relinquishing his Directorship of International and Mark has volunteered to take on that role. He thanked both for their contributions to the Club.
Recently Charles has been involved in the tidying up of the Club trailer and feels that it is now more efficient. He reminded that Members that the Australia Day celebrations are on our radar and will require volunteers.
Wayne now gave his Secretary’s Report:
- Pete is having a brief break from the Club;
- Power Tools collected for DIK will be stored at Peters;
- Future Open Gardens are included in the future potential Club projects;
- Highlights from the District include a motor show in Frankston in December, the Leongatha Art Show and a Duck Derby run by Peninsular v2;
- An Xmas function has been touted for the 17th but to be discussed; and
- There is a Board Meeting on the 2/12.
Next was the Treasures Report.
Tony announced that the Open Gardens had raised $539 with minimal costs. He also pointed out that the Greg had attended the Bendigo Bank Presentations Night on behalf of the Club. The Club has received $6000 towards the Tiny House Project and $2000 for marquees.
Chris now mentioned that he would not be able to attend this weeks Market, and the weather was not looking good. (it turned out to be a very bad day. Ed)
Wayne now spoke about the loading and unloading of the Club trailer and how the sequence must be followed. A short discussion followed.
Chris queried whether it was worth creating a Raffle hamper for the December Market, considering that it will a New Years Raffel not Xmas. The Members felt it was still worthwhile although probably on a smaller scale to an Xmas one. He also mentioned that the Dromana Community Hub Information night was on Tuesday 3rd December at 6:00 p.m. and it was important for the Club to be in attendance.
There was a quick Lotto draw which was won by Ann.
Wayne handed the Meeting back to Charles who added his thanks to our Guest Speaker, David, and then closed the Meeting at 7:50. This was followed by a post-mortem of the Halloween Function, with the aim of improving the experience for the community and developing a Club Process document.
