Happenings at last week’s Meeting
Charles started the Meeting with the usual Toast and Invocation before handing over to Greg as the Chair for the night. Greg flipped the Meeting sequence a bit and went straight into an introduction of the Guest Speaker, Wayne Jones. Wayne is an international bass player who records successful smooth jazz albums and has developed a range of world leading recording studio monitors. Wayne lives in Safety Beach.
Wayne spoke about his early career playing with many of the most successful Australian bands. During this time, he began building bass speakers and then moved into building recording studio monitors. He now has the premier range of studio monitors in the world. Wayne went on to explain some of the technical side to his monitors and then spoke about the pleasure he still has in both building quality and being able to continue a recording career when he wishes.
He covered a few of the people who have embraced his monitors, and they come from a wide range of musical genres world-wide.
Wayne took some questions from the Members and then was officially thanked by the Chair for taking the time to come and talk to the Club.

Now the Chair reset the Meeting sequence by reading out the apologies and then calling for the President’s Report.
Charles only covered the upcoming Sky Whales event and mentioned some of the logistics and need for things such as lights.
Now it was time for the Secretary’s Report.
Wayne also spoke on the Sky Whales event (8th Nov). He rechecked the list of volunteers and recommended that they have head lamps. He also pointed out that lights will be needed for the Halloween event, which led to a discussion on that and other requirements for the event. Finally, he announced that he will be away, up north, until 2nd November.
The Chair called for Directors Reports.
Peter Collins reminded the Meeting of the upcoming film night. (see below)
Mark gave an update on Community and Youth:
- A council grant is underway;
- A student has been sponsored to the National Youth Science Forum; and
- Two students have been sponsored for the Science Experience.
Greg spoke on behalf of Joseph and reminded the Meeting that volunteers will be required, not only for the Halloween event but also for before and after work.
Lotto was drawn (and won by Peter Greenaway) and Fines were levied. Charles then thanked all for attendance and closed the Meeting at 7:50.
