President's Message

Hello Fellow Rotarians,

How quickly Christmas and New Year come and go, I can’t believe we are already into our second month of the new year.

The end of my tenure as President is fast approaching, and there are still items I need to complete before the end of June. I’m still working on obtaining a new Club Room facility for our Club Meetings. I’m confident of obtaining a new venue, however, finding someone to cater for our needs is still the challenge.

Last meeting at the SBS club, was poorly attended and we need to improve on this.

I would like to thank all those who participated manning our Marquee to provide paint, wood cutouts etc for the children at the Australia Day Celebration. It was a great job well done and very successful.

Next Wednesday our social will be held at the Authentic Thai Cuisine at 883Point Nepean Rd Rosebud.

Look forward to seeing you all there.

Regards

Charles Ross

Happenings at last week’s Meeting

(Firstly, apologies for the late delivery of the Bulletin. Obviously, your Ed has not fitted back into his routine yet.)

Charles started the Meeting with the usual Toast and Invocation then handed over to Marke as Chair for the night.

Mark remarked on the number of people missing from the Meeting and the need for the Club to find a way of encouraging a more regular turnout of our Members.

The Chair now called for any urgent reports and Chris rose to speak about the Market.

Market tasks were allocated and then Chris spoke about the confusion around the participation of the Virtual Reality vendors at the Market. It seems that they had not really researched the attendance that a peninsular market generates and had pulled out. The Classic Cars Club is going to be invited to the next Market as a way of adding more attractions. Unfortunately, the band are not due to attend this month. (Little did we know that they would turn up, unannounced. Ed.)

The Chair called for the Presidents Report.

Charles thanked the Club for their hard work at the Australia Day event. He then said that he was pursuing a possible caterer for our Meetings. Next, he announced that Sorrento Rotary are looking for other clubs to join with them in a bushfire appeal for affected schools. This generated a discussion with thoughts including re-directing some international funds. It was decided that this request requires more investigation and possibly an approach to District.

Bob rose and offered the Club’s congratulations to Charles for his work on the committee that organised the Australia Day function.

Next was the Secretary’s Report from Wayne:
  • Attendance at Meetings is questionable and pertains to the Club future;
  • Congratulations to Charles for his first Australia Day success;
  • Congratulations on birthdays and 38 years of Membership for Ross;
  • The Board will authorise bushfire donations;
  • Social Night venue to be published;
  • One improvement for the Club to make at the next Australia Day is the provision of a coffee facility; and
  • The next Board Meeting is 11th February.
Mark raised the question of how to make the Meeting more attractive and asked all Members to think of options.

Merv Gave the Treasurers Report:
  • $2000 to Vinnies Kitchen;
  • $5000 to Southern Peninsular Community Support;
  • $1281.95 to Foundation;
  • $369.75 to Lift The Lid; and
  • We received $480.95 from the Library spinner.
Greg announced that the Tiny House is waiting on the final paperwork to be provided to the Salvos and is close to installation.

Director Mark reported that the student we sponsored to NYSF would like to come and talk to the Members, as would the Science Experience students in the future.

Lotto was drawn, Harry won, and Fines were issued (mainly for anniversaries. Ed).

The Chair handed the Meeting back to the President and Charles closed the Meeting at 7:50.

You will receive an email each week requesting that you confirm your attendance at the next meeting by return email of by phone call or text.
