Happenings at last weeks’ meeting
Harry opened the meeting by reminding the members that the visit to Disaster Aid, in Doveton, was next week. The visit will include a meal and a demonstration of the SkyHydrant and will replace the normal meeting at the Sailing Club. The address is 92 Doveton Ave, Eumemmerring and will require some car-pooling as the return to Safety Beach is expected to be about midnight.
Next, Harry announced that there had been a mix-up in the arrangements for tonight’s expected speaker and the Interplas presentation was going to be in 2 weeks (9th June). Volunteers were still required for the next Market and, after the next normal meeting on the 16th , the combined Boards were to meet. The Change-over night is on the 29th June. He then handed the Meeting over to Lyn Lewis to chair.
Secretary Chris is sick so Lyn handed over to Merv for Lotto and Fines. Lotto was won by your Murray and we progressed to Fines which maintained their recent fairness and justification.
Harry reported that the District had noted our seeding of funds towards the establishment of an Interplas team. There is definite interest in the Cluster putting forward the funds to make this possible. Harry also pointed out that, thanks to Col and Barb Byatt it is now possible for us to fund two SkyHydrants for deployment ot Tonga and another priority one destination.
Lyn now introduced Ian McIntosh for a GIG.
In this instance Ian chose to talk about a recent trip he and Geoff Taylor made to look at the flooding at Lake Eyre. This was on an Australian Air Safari plane from Moorabbin. The 2 day trip on a Plane Caravan (Beachcraft Bonanza) flew via Leigh Creek to William Creek where the recent rains had closed the roads so that the Pub, which normally handled about 30-40 guests, had about 140 guests with nowhere to go but wait for the waters to subside.
The Pub owner has about 30 planes for sightseeing but Ian’s group took off the next morning to fly over the painted hills and on the Lake Eye. The lake is 40% full but only from rainfall as the northern floods have not yet arrived because they take up to 2 months to progress this far south.
The safari continued on to lunch just south of Wilpena Pound, and thence to Broken Hill for a tour of the Flying Doctor Service base. After this they headed for home after a most interesting 2 day tour.
Directors Reports.
Tony announced that, even though we only had 25 stalls to date, he was hopeful of 30+ on the day of the Market. This was to be Tony’s last Market as he will now hand over to Chris. He thanked the Club for the support he has received and, in return, received a hearty thanks fro the Club for all his hard work and the effort he has put in to make the Market the success that it is.
Lyn mentioned that we have received a request from Cranbourne Rotary for a load of firewood to be delivered to someone in need in Rosebud West. The meeting decided that it would be a good idea to investigate who the request was for before actioning it.
Harry announced that the last part of the meeting was to celebrate Rick’s birthday and, after some reasonably in-tune signing, we all grabbed a portion of his cake.
On this note the meeting closed at 8:10.
