Happenings at last week’s Meeting
The night began with the Clubs’ Annual General Meeting. This involved Wayne conducting the Meeting and, essentially, working through the announcing, proposing, seconding and general acceptance of:
- The Minutes from the previous meeting, held in November 2023;
- Any Business arising from those Minutes;
- The Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Reports, which did involve some discussion on clarifications;
- Nominations for the President for the new Rotary year, with Charles feeling that he was only just getting into his “stride” and staying on for another year;
- Nominations for Directors for the new year (which seemed a bit quiet. Ed.); and
- The discussion on any General Business (which also seemed a bit quiet. Ed)
After the closure of the AGM the night reverted to a normal Club Meeting with Charles proposing the Toast and calling for the Invocation, then passing over to the Chair, Greg.
Slightly off Agenda, Greg announced that the Tiny House Project was near to commencement. There were a few questions from the Meeting about the Project history and target and then Greg called for the Presidents Report.
Charles reported on the success of the Halloween Night, thanking all volunteers with special mentions for Tony and Joseph. He noted that the attitude of the local Fire Brigade seemed to be in the process of changing and may be of assistance next year. He announced a post-mortem to be carried out on the 27th November.
Next, Greg called for the Secretaries Report and Wayne reported that there had been a Board Meeting on November 4th at which funding of $2.500 had been approved for Dromana Secondary College, Dromana Primary School, Peninsular Specialist College and Red Hill Consolidated. He also reported on the on-going layout changes to the Market, the success of the Halloween Night and initiated a short discussion on the staffing of the Open Gardens Day.
Joseph now announced that there had been a net $6K profit from the Halloween Night but this was only really a bonus as the success is that it is an event which is so fully embraced by the local community.
As a way of speeding up proceedings, Lotto was run and won by Bob who received the only Fine.
Greg now called for Directors.
Mark spoke on behalf of the Foundation and announced $300+ from the Movie Night. He also reminded the Meeting that there would be a Foundation Presentation in December.
Harry reminded the Meeting of the need to source second hand electrical tools for donation to Donations In Kind.
Chris now covered a number of topics:
- We have a busy couple of weeks in December/January with our Market, Bunnings BBQ and Two Bays Fun Run all coming up;
- The Rosebud/Rye Market is in trouble due to sand drifts covering their site. He canvassed ideas on how we could help and, although there is a desire to help the club, the subject was deferred to the Market Committee for further thought;
- The development of our Market continues which is meant with, mostly, positive feedback;
- The development of the Club extranet Website is being organised by Pauline and Merin; and
- The Market is having to be careful not to be used for electioneering.
The Chair handed the Meeting back to the President who, quickly, reminded Members that any spare tip vouchers should be handed to Pete. He then closed the Meeting at 7:55.
Just Some Extras.
- All proceeds generated by the spinners will be going to the Australian Rotary Health Lift The Lid on mental illness initiative.
