The happenings at the last meeting
We did not have a guest speaker this week, although there was plenty of discussion with the 19 members and friends who attended the Zoom meeting.
We discussed:
- The awarding of Paul Harris fellowships and recommended that we should use our donations as a means to give fellowships to acknowledge the efforts of more members.
- The Dromana Community House requirements and how we might be able to help. These was some thought that we could use working-bees to paint the fences and so on.
- The arrangements for the Zoom Presidents Changeover meeting.
- The possibility of holding the Halloween function.
The exchange student, Livia Martins, is going to return home to Brazil in July with other students
We had a session dealing with the members explaining what was happening in their little patch during the restriction from Covid-19.
Rod: The lock down restrictions have had little effect as he works from home anyhow. He has been busy working on a workplace health and safety issue in Queensland.
Chris: His life is the similar to Rods. The travel restrictions have had a significant effect on his business. Most air-freighted items imported used to come by passenger flights, now it is by freighters at a cost of about 4 to 5 times the price. In addition, the schedule of container ships has been disrupted through the quarantining of the Chinese fleet. We need to manufacture more in Australia!
Col: Just had the caravan serviced, new heater installed, we are ready to take off to warmer climates as soon as the state borders are opened
Peter: Back at work after being shut for five weeks. Thanks to those that helped for meals for Ray and Elaine. The raffle fund raiser has been started; please come to the shop to buy tickets.
Rick: intends to start riding with the U3A group and playing petanque
John: is having the top of a tree cut out. The tree was planted by Julie’s father just after the second world war.
David: He is having a major 15 year clean- up and has just found his back yard. (Ed: we hope the Rolls is OK)
Ray and Elaine: Wanted to express they sincere thanks to the members of the club for assisting. We were delighted to hear that Ray is responding to his immunotherapy. We all wish him and Elaine the best for a speedy recovery.
Terry: He 3 putted on 4 greens today, and so we all have challengers. He was questioning whether we could have a process for describing the Rotary pyramid. Chris recommended members look at My Rotary (my.rotary.org) and Rotary Central sites.
We hope to attract more members to our Zoom meetings we are getting better at running them
And here are the happy faces from last weeks meeting
See you all on Thursday at 7.00 pm
