President's Message

Hello Members,

I will act as President for the next few weeks while Charles is on Leave of Absence.

Last week Pauline and Tony gave us a comprehensive PP presentation on the Hope Bags project they are
working very hard on establishing. The club is certainly behind such a worthwhile project. Their efforts
and Joseph’s commitment are to be commended.

The first of many meetings at the Community Hall went well I think. We will all have to help before and
after the meeting to share the extra work.

This week we have a Guest Speaker from the Stroke Foundation which will be very interesting.

Vice President Merv

Happenings at last week’s Meeting

We were at the Community Hall for the first of the unique Committee Meetings. This one was for the Promotions and Publicity Committee and the Chair for the night was Pauline.

The subject of the evening was the Project Proposal for the Peninsular Hope Bags.

Pauline ran though to principles behind the Hope Bags, with the help of Tony:
  • For the local Community;
  • A Mission Statement has been produced;
  • Requires immediate local responsiveness;
  • Provides a local safety net; and
  • Becomes a community movement with a local network.
The Marketing Plan was summarised as:
  • Raising Awareness;
  • Developing Engagement (Wine Lovers have already committed to donating); and
  • Working to create Lasting Impact.
Pauline said that this could be “Rotary at Its Best” and ran through some of the “How’s”. Such as:
  • Friends of Rotary – without the full Rotary commitments;
  • Using similar approach to Australian Rotary Health and it’s growth path;
  • Seeding money provided by the Club and Wine Lovers.
The Meeting agreed to the presentation of a request to the Board to provide seed money of $5,000. The requesting letter to be written by Tony and presented at the next Board Meeting.

Simon Brooks gave a brief update on the Tiny House will be “launched” of Friday 12th June at midday.

Wayne now raised a few points. Firstly, future meetings will require the Members to set up tables and prepare the venue and then tidy up after the finish. Secondly, from now on if a member is not coming to the Meeting or does not want a meal, they must notify the Treasurer or they will be billed for the cost of the meal and meeting.

Lotto was drawn, and won by Greg, and there was no Fines session.

Pauline thanked all Members for attending. The Meeting was then closed at 8:05.

Friends of Hillview Tree Planting

Planting day and sausage sizzle at the Hillview Community Reserve 191 Boundary Rd Dromana.

A successful event supported by about 50 volunteers. Well done to the Rotarians – Merve, Pete, Greg, Charles, Marianne and Rob.

A Tiny House Notice

“Opening on Friday 12th of June at 12 noon at the Salvation Army church grounds, Corner of Eastbourne Rd and Melaleuca Ave Capel Sound 3940.

Everyone is welcome to come along and inspect what they have contributed to.

 Thanks Greg”

You will receive an email each week requesting that you confirm your attendance at the next meeting by return email of by phone call or text.
