GUEST SPEAKER THIS WEEK.
Stephen Todd. Solar smart Farm.
Stephen spoke about how they are trying to build a solar farm in the Dromana Industrial estate, it is in Collins rd on the vacant land opposite all the factories, he said they can make enough electricity to help support the demand for power over the summer period, were they had to get in more generators to fill the demand, he said this would help the situation and use less carbin emissions, he also said it was a good investment as it would return 5% to 6 % interest on your money, David asked a question regarding how do you sell it if you wanted to, this could not be answered at this stage, l think more needs to be looked at if you are interested in this type of investment to make an informed decision .( My opinion).
Stephen said at this stage Frankston was interested in buying the power from them as well as other areas, he also said that the Mornington Peninsula Shire was not making this project easy for them to get started, even though they all think it’s a good idea. Stephen also said that the funding might need to come from over seas if it doesn’t get enough financial interest here.
They will be building information centres with interactive screens, plant sections with vertical walls inside containers covered with plants and painted to blend in with the environment, there will be sheep to keep the grass down and all the solar panels will be 1 metre of the ground so the sheep can get under to keep the grass down, and also the panels can be removed without damage to the ground beneath it, they will also grow apple trees and let local volunteer groups pick the apples and sell them for free to help raise money for their projects.
