President's Message

Hi All

Tech support group

Rotary International has for some time recognised that we are indeed in the 21st Century with our communications technology.

Clubs and members that do not embrace it will be left behind. Gone are the days when the Club Secretary clears the mail box and brought an armful of letters to the Club for distribution.
Look at all the trees we save!!!!

Our Club is similar to many other organisations where modern IT based communications is now the norm.

1.Some experts in the club
2.Some who want know
3.Some who are willing to learn
4.Some who know already
5.Some who don’t want to know.

So with this in mind I believe it is about time we established a Tech Support group within the club.
So we can spread the load!!!

This group between them would ensure that -

1. ClubRunner Website is kept up date along the membership database.
2. The ability to produce and circulate bulletins.
3. Educate the members in the correct use of the email system.
4. And generally make some members more happy with the new “fangled” stuff.
5. Get familiar with Zoom and how to use it.
6. Use of the Square credit card system.
7. and who knows what will be next!

I think I know who amongst us would cherish the idea of joining this group but please let me know.

Our Sick mates

Happenings from the last meeting.

Chris gave the Secretary’s report and stated that the Rotary Foundation quantification seminars are scheduled for the 11 April. The Rotary foundation to protect the environment is a world project which we should seek opportunities to be involved.
A district Golf day is planned for the 9 April;  Chris is seeking to establish a team from our club.

Harry said that Brendon Ellis is heavily committed at work and so he is seeking a volunteer for the Youth Directorship.

Elaine has raised approximately $860 through the sale of eggs, bird seed and so on. Rob Alexander has been most generous in providing the eggs and bird seed. (I hope I have reported this correctly!)

Michael Anderson informed the club that the monthly market went very well and we now expect 60 to 65 stalls next month.  Michael Smith said the social media was increasing our exposure.  He was looking to have 3 flyers produced: a generic market one, specific ones with the date on the next market and one that describes Rotary and the actions of our club.  He is going to select particular stall holders in the promotion material.

The guest speaker was fellow club member Bernard who spoke about human trafficking and modern day slavery where a person has absolute power over another.  He spoke about incidents where families in debt has had to sell children.  Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing crimes and involves females in about 80 percent of the time.  A good part of his presentation involved a song, “Can you see me now!” which described some of the horrific acts and restraints on some people.  His overriding message was to buy responsibly by determining if others have been exploited along the supply chain.

Speechless this week but watch this space
Carol
